We interrupt the regularly scheduled “Friday Funny” for something, well…funny.

You wanted her, and I am a woman of my WORD! I present to you Issa Rae, the KICK ARSE creator of “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.” She and I had a great conversation about college life at Stanford, her a quick stint in New York, and now back in California, she quickly is forging sure-fire cult hit.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that Jay is her first “swirl” relationship, and since Issa just plays J on the show, she’s sort of living life vicariously through her. She was VERY interested in Swirling the book, so I must make sure she gets a copy. (hee hee)

Loving the triangle!

I reached out to Issa last week and ran her down for an interview. Actually, I laid down in the street in front of her car until she would talk to me. So as not to create more of a scene, she graciously agreed to an interview monitored by bodyguards and Secret Service agents but it didn’t feel at all uncomfortable.

Get your deets on what the future holds for the show:

So you young, successful rainbeaus, Ms. Rae, 26, is an equal opportunity dater so…you might want to find and friend her on Facebook here while you still have the chance and won’t have to lie in front of her car before she’ll speak to you, because that just looks desperate.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the latest episode. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Great commercial, wish they would air it here in America.

Hi Everyone!

RUN OUT AND BUY THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE OF ESSENCE! The same guy who wrote the piece in Wall Street Journal did a piece in Essence. It is a 6 page “Special Feature”. It also features 4 sisters in interracial relationships big photos of them and all. This is just fabulous!

Quick! Look out the window to see if pigs are flying! My writing partner agrees that making this a "Special Feature" is a very, very big deal. ;-)

In the beginning of the peice. It is stated that this article might be the moment that changes your life. It is a fantastic article. I am making copies and giving it out to other women that I know. This is huge!

Interesting statement in the beginning of the piece. It stated that if you never considered interracial dating, reading this article might be the moment that changes your life. It is a fantastic article! I am making copies and handing them out!

I love the scene when they walk into the restraunt and they get the stares and even the brotha with his arm around his white girlfriend was looking at them crooked. This show is great!!!

I am a new fan! Love it!

Issa is great and so, so smart. The revolution is here and she's wearing a tweeny weeny afro!

This was too hiilarious!!! Can not wait until 9/8/2011

I was wondering if her and white jay were together in real life, they have really good chemistry on screen :)

can't wait for September to get here! I will be on the edge of my seat until then. Love the characters and I'm definitely rooting for J and J.

Hi Everyone,

Just a blast from the past. The original Tom & Helen Willis. Scene where George Jefferson first meets them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjhzhK2zryg

You know after these many years. When I watch reruns of 'The Jeffersons' and I remember watching them as a kid. I never recall thinking that Tom and Helen Willis' characters were anything but a married couple in love. It was never odd to me that were different races. And yes that was funny.

I discovered her show thanks to this blog and its honestly the funniest thing ive seen in years and so relateable!!! I like all the characters. I think the girl who plays her best friend is also super funny. Im a bit depressed right now, think I will rewatch all the episodes to make me feel better. How can anyone not be in a good mood after watching this show?! It really is perfection.

Haha Christelyn you seriously kill me! This is my first time watching Awkward Black Girl and it had me literally laughing out loud.

Thank you for the info. Love the series

Just wanted to add that I have been instant messaging with a guy that I met through a support site for people who have social anxiety. He's white. He happened to message me one day after finding my messenger info on the site. He's in an interracial relationship with a black woman, and they have been together for a while. One of the first things I told him about was the ABG series. He watched some of the first episode one time when we were chatting, and one of the first things that he said is that Issa is pretty. And I agree, she's definitely pretty and has a great smile.

I loveeee her. Waait what did she say about white jay? I couldnt understand her at the end. She the audience, "something " about white jay? Can someone please explain if you heard thta part.

Thanks! lol

Yeah, I didn't hear that last little bit myself, and would be happy to know what she said at the end about Jay.

The last thing Issa said was that in the next episode, we'll be as mad at Jay as we were at Fred. uh oh!

The white man is never going to catch a break will he? :(

love love love this show. Hilarious. I so identify with the main character J.

@Nkosazana

She has to choose Fred to keep the series going. There is more comedy in a bad decision :-)

Even though it almost pains me to think that J would pick Fred over Jay,since I like Jay so much, I agree that if she does pick Fred, then we might get to see her regretting her decision and sort of pining after Jay (comedy ensues) once she starts dating Fred.

This show is my favorite comedy ANYWHERE right now! Can't wait to see how this love triangle plays out!

Uhuh I love this but now I'm worried that she will end up with Fred. The guy who dissed her for that other women. White Jay is better for her.

@NKosazana, I'm actually kind of worried now, myself, after listening to what Issa had to say. I really want J to pick White Jay, because I like the way that he has interacted with her. He just seems really cool and able to put himself out there to get what he wants, even though he may be awkward in his approach. I find that to be a refreshing trait in a character who happens to be socially awkward. He's awkward but at the same time there is a certain appeal to his character, which makes me want to root for him.

I think that Fred is cool as well, and he seems to be a bit shy, also, which might be one of the reasons why he hasn't gone out of his way to show his interest in J. This allows the Queen Bee character, Nina to basically dominate his attention and cut in whenever she feels threatened when J and Fred are talking at work. He seems like a generally nice guy, so I don't have a problem with the character, at all, but I definitely want J and Jay to end up together.

I'm a fan, too. Love the script, love the pacing, love her. I hope her film efforts get some attention from a studio, and I hope her dating efforts get her a lot of personal attention.

I followed a link to one of the episodes and I am a complete fan! The show is seriously witty, the production value awesome and so is the talent. I have no idea of the backgrounds of the crew and cast but the quality is professional all the way around.
