Black Women's Empowerment

Because You Need to Hear It: The BB&W Manifesto.

There are those I observe on social media who have been dedicated–like Ahab to Moby, Don Quixote to the dragon, and Wile E. Coyote to the Road Runner–to literally crushing the dreams of black women, young and old. I have seen them call us ugly, unlovable, angry, fat, not worthy of love and protection, and deserving of all manner of abuse. There is no need to call out these evil-doers–they know who they are, and you know them by their fruit.

I am not sure what the motivation is, but I think it’s due to some feeling of rejection, some pathology of character. How else can you explain why huge swathes of folks jump with glee at every slight, humiliation and setback we have? Miserable people are like vampires. They feed, and their hunger can not be quenched.

But I say this to all who wish us ill…

Don’t expect us to love you for it. You don’t deserve it. You may cloak your put-downs in phrases like, “I’m trying to uplift,” or “I’m just don’t want you disappointed when…”, but we’re too smart not to see through that, boo boo. Take your gift-wrapped dog poop and eat it yourself. We’re no longer hungry.

And for your concerted effort to kill the hopes and dreams of black women of every shade and hue, I wish karmic justice upon you. Part of the reason I run this blog is to be the counter voice to those who will say we are worth nothing. My daughters will grow up and know their worth, and if I can help it, millions of other black girls and women will know they are beautiful and worthy–does this horrify you? GOOD! I want you horrified. I want you terrified. But most of all, I want you vilified.

We will not turn the other cheek, nor will we lash out.

We will do worse.

We will disengage.

We will leave you to your fetid hatred.

And will will move on.

And to those who have shown their support and love, we won’t and don’t forget. And to those who stood by idly while you saw us battered and bruised, called out of our names, ridiculed and left for dead, we won’t and don’t forget.

Thank you Twitter, thank you You Tube, and thank you blogs and forums, for revealing the folly of our enemies. Thank you for providing a haven in which they can display and spew their vitriol, so that we can better arm and protect ourselves.

For every song, commercial, blog entry, You Tube rant, television show, Twitter vomit, and communique via homing pigeon, we thank you for revealing who you are. With all your ill intentions, you show us and others who you are and what you are–a tick. A bug, and a cockroach. Shame on you for delighting in the misery of others, and shame on you for wishing misery upon us. Shame on you for telling our daughters that they are whores and sperm receptacles, and that no man–not any of any race, color or creed–will love us.

What is it that you gain? How does this fulfill you?

I care not. But I and others like me will no longer turn the other cheek, nor will be fight you. We will simply move on and find a true community, a motley of allies and admirers, friends who may one day be family.

And last, what did Ahab, Quixote, and While E. all have in common? Try as they might, they never won. They were defeated and humiliated, as all of you will be too.

We rise.

We float.

We rock.
