As I read the accounts of today’s conviction of Aaron Hernandez, former New England Patriots tight end-come newly appointed felon, I can’t help but think how big a dumb ass this man was. Hernandez was convicted of several counts of first degree murder for shooting Odia Lloyd. He and two goons lured Lloyd out to a remote area and killed him, possibly to avenge a perceived slight against his girlfriend’s sister.

From CNN:

Prosecutors say Lloyd was seen June 17, 2013, around 2:30 a.m. with Hernandez and Hernandez’s friends, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, in a rented silver Nissan Altima. Later that day, a jogger found his body riddled with gunshots.

The prosecution portrayed Hernandez as cold, calculating and insecure — a man who believed others should be grateful for his attention, one capable of murder for merely disrespecting him in the presence of others.

Prosecutor William McCauley asked jurors: What was Hernandez talking about a day after Lloyd’s bullet-riddled body was found at a Massachusetts industrial park? “‘My endorsements are gone,'” Hernandez said, according to McCauley. “He’s not talking about Odin.”

Unbelievable. The next day Hernandez was chilling by the pool while his girl made smoothies for him and his boys. She later dumped a box which most likely contained the never-discovered murder weapon and his behest.

This man had just landed a $40 million contract by the Patriots, had a girlfriend and baby who adored him, and he threw it all away so he could behave like a complete and utter thug. And you know what? This was planned a premeditated, not something out of passion, which leads me to wonder if this man has done similar crimes but just never got caught. This man is capable of KILLING someone because of some perceived slight or disrespect. What is that? A dual at high noon at the O.K. Corral would have been more honorable–at least it would have given the other guy a fighting chance.

Look at what this man gave up…

So sad that no matter how much money you have, you can’t fix stupid.

I hear the Pittsburgh Steelers whupped the Cleveland Browns in the opening season game. Well, that’s all fine and good but I’m more interested in the Pittsburgh Steeler with the exceptionally awesome hair. Troy Polamalu is a Samoan American powerhouse that you just can’t ignore either because of his frenzied style of football or his equally reserved public persona. This week’s Man Candy Monday takes a look at a Christian family man that lives beneath his means and but charms with his willingness to be tongue in cheek.

Troy Polamalu,

The Steelers announced on Monday that Polamalu would be one for four team captains this season, along with Ben RoethlisbergerRobert Golden and Shaun Suisham. Roethlisberger will serve as the team’s offensive captain while Suisham and Golden will be special teams captains. Polamalu will serve as the lone defensive captain.

troy polamalu, Steelers, USC, Pittsburgh, football, married, Samoan, husband, father, team captain, NFL,

In homage to “Mah Na Mah Na,” the old Sesame Street ditty in which a beatnik Muppet grunts the title phrase and is scolded by two lady Muppets who sing “Doo doo-doo doo-doo,” the “Puhlahmahlu” video features a mangy puppet who repeats the Fox guy’s mispronunciation—”Puh-lah-m’lu“—and is corrected by two pink cows who chide, “It’s Pah-lah-mah-lu.”

Troy Polamalu,

Polamalu has a contract with Head & Shoulders shampoo, and has starred in five commercials for the product. In August 2010, P&G paid for a million-dollar insurance policy from Lloyd’s of London for Polamalu’s hair.[39]Polamalu’s hair is 32 inches long.

“I don’t know,” he says, “it’s just hard for me to say these things without sounding really crazy. Anybody who’s away from what’s normal is just kind of pushed aside as, ‘Oh, he’s crazy.’ But in reality, this world is crazy. It’s just chaos everywhere. It’s really hard to be part of this world, because it’s very possessed. And very egocentric.”

During the 2011 NFL lockout, Polamalu utilized his time away from the field to return to the University of Southern California to complete his college education. On May 13, 2011, he graduated from USC with a bachelor’s degree in history.[35] On his personal website he explained, “I decided to finish what I started and walked that stage today not only because it was very important to me personally, but because I want to emphasize the importance of education, and that nothing should supersede it.

Dude with the hair, I was to learn, is something altogether different: a mystic, a man more fourth century than twenty-first, living in constant dialogue with the Deity. The first communication I had from Polamalu, after weeks’ worth of fruitless attempts to reach him during the off-season, was a cryptic e-mail in which he apologized for being unreachable and explained, “I have been in seclusion these last few weeks from even my own family, soul-searching.” He signed off with the Christian fish symbol.

The Polamalus live in an anonymous, brand-new housing development in the suburbs north of Pittsburgh. By pro-athlete standards, it’s a modest spread, conspicuous in its inconspicuousness: no consumer electronics, no phallic sports cars in the driveway (just a blah Toyota SUV), no home studio, no trophies, helmets, or paraphernalia displayed in homage to the glory of the resident jock. The only distinctive flourishes I notice are the crosses in each room.(Source)

Say hello to him on Facebook or via Twitter. I hear he’s very humble and soft spoken.

Ladies I want to explain football to you. Some of you already know, but trust me when I tell you that men find it to be a great thing if you know the game or even better– watch and enjoy the game. If us guys know Scandal and all the other dramas, then you can know about football!

The Basics:

  1. You have offense, defense and special teams in the game of football. Offense tries to score and defense tries to prevent them from scoring. Each side has 11 players on the field at any one time. The offense has 4 plays to try and get 10 yards. If by the fourth play they have not reached those 10 yards they can either punt the ball away, go for the first down or touchdown or kick a field goal. Punting is kicking the ball away to the other team on fourth down. The unit of players on the field during a punt or kick is the special teams. Often time’s special teams can win a game for you. Scoring can be done by a touchdown, field goal, 2 point conversion and safety. A touchdown is scored when a player in control of the ball runs in the end zone or catches a pass in the end zone. After the touchdown the scoring team can either kick an extra point for one point or go for 2 points. If the team can’t get in the end zone they can kick a field goal that is worth 3 points. The defense can also score. They can score a touchdown if they intercept a pass and run it back to their end zone or they recover a fumble and score. The defense can also score a safety by stopping the offensive player with the ball in the end zone. Intercept is when the defensive team catches a pass intended for the offense. Fumble is when the player with the ball loses the ball. A safety is worth 2 points.
  2. The positions on the field for offense are wide receiver, offensive linemen, quarterback, running back and tight end. Wide receivers are usually fast and agile. They are generally pass catchers. Offensive linemen are normally very large and slow. The quarterback is normally the offensive leader of the team and they tell the team what play is going to be ran. The running back can be fast and nimble or maybe a little slower and a bruiser who breaks tackles. Ideally you will have a combination of the 2. The tight end is not a player with a large butt. He normally lines up at the end of the offensive line and either blocks or goes out to catch a pass. To get the 11 players needed the team will have a combo of the players mentioned earlier.
  3. The positions on the field for defense are defensive linemen, linebacker, safety and cornerback. Defensive linemen are usually large and are usually quicker that offensive linemen. The linebacker position is normally made up of an inside linebacker and outside linebacker. The inside linebacker is normally the leader of the defense or the quarterback of the defense. Safeties normally play is the defensive backfield as well as cornerbacks. Like the offensive side of the ball a team can use any combination of the players mentioned as long as it is 11 players.

This is just a general breakdown of the game. The rules can vary from college to the pros. The great thing you can ask a guy friend or a female friend who likes the game to explain it to you in more depth. Have fun!!!!

Apparently throwing like a girl is the new black.  Mo’Ne Davis a 13 yr old girl from Phillidelphia is taking her team, the Taney Dragons, all the way to the Little League World Series. Why is this such a big deal? Well in the last 7 decades only 16 girls have had the luxury of playing at the Little Legue World Series. Not only is she an amazing pitcher (she pitched a complete shut out in her latest game) but according to her coach she is also a leader on her team which says a lot in a male dominated sport. Mo’Ne is one of two girls scheduled to compete at the Little League world Series, Canadian Emma March being the second. The third time that a pair of women has made it this far. I hope they can face each other at the final!

Is it just me, but is there some special gene that footballers have in common that makes them smoking hot? I mean, I’m a soccer mom in name only–I have no idea about all the rules and other stuff, my kids are in soccer camp this week in hopes that they’ll be less pathetic at sports than I am. But even I–sports challenged as I am–can not miss all the eye candy I’m seeing. It also doesn’t help that these guys have the kind of physique I love…long, lean, and muscles everywhere.

Here’s  a few that stand out for me…

Fabian Schär…he’s Swiss. He’s 6’1, and 187 pounds of delicious.

Oh hello, Olivier Giroud. Oh French cuisine has never looked so decadent. Yummy feast for the eyes. Wonder where he’s directed that tongue…

Mama Mia…Claudio Marchisio, the Italian Stallion. He looks kind of like white Jesus to me without the long hair.

And then there’s the dark and mysterious Mariano Andújar from Argentina. This guy has nice, chiseled features. He’s gonna make some purdee babies.

And let’s not forget the hotties we grow on good old American soil. Three cheers for Graham Zusi and his scrumptious chin.

The NFL’s first openly gay draft pick for the Rams was exuberant at the news that he made the team that he kissed his boyfriend. Tongues are wagging. I don’t follow sports unless my husband makes me, but this stood out for a variety of reasons. Yes; he’s black. Yes; he’s gay. Yes; his boyfriend is white. And you know what I say? Live and let live.

I know of two gay men in my own family, and I can tell you that they showed signs of their preferences before they even knew what sex was. Both of my cousins hid far in the closet and had terrible outcomes. One succumbed to AIDS at the height of the epidemic in 1997. The other feigned heterosexuality, had a daughter out of wedlock and does not speak to her. Both were devastating effects of having to hide who they really were as a result of family and social pressure.

I’m all for people being who they are and not LYING about it. So double kudos, Michael Sam, for being drafted and not putting some poor, unsuspecting woman at risk because you’re trying to hide your sexuality.

People gotta be who they are, whether we like it or not.
