You’ve heard about the “crooked room,” now meet the characters posted on the walls. First up, the Jezebel.
Here’s the conundrum: I love what the Sexual Revolution and Women’s Lib achieved *in general* but with every shift, there comes consequences. Are we ready for them?
Yup. It’s true. It’s just easier to be a straight white male than it is to be any other combination of sexual orientation, race, or gender.
Ever fall in like with that special someone, only to find out that he’s a raving, socialist commy, or rabid, nazi fascist? Now you don’t have to worry about that awkward moment when you discover you and your boo are politically incompatible.
Some of the very women we are attracted to and want to love are placing restrictions of how we express that love and how we talk about our attraction? What gives? Why can’t I say you’re beautiful?
For the passed few days, everyone has been speculating about the woman receiving the, “FINISH HIM!!” uppercut. But what about the man who was, hit and spit on?
Note: For the purpose of this article, I’m dealing with a specifically observed issue that has nothing to do with “butch” lesbianism in black women or non-black women. What I’m talking about is not an outgrowth of self-identified sexuality, sexual expression, or a conscious decision by the individual to move away from gender norms and form their own identity. This post is on something ENTIRELY different.
The good news? Ebony.com has been quick to respond to concerns.
The bad news? That they crafted the story in the way that they did in the first place.
“As long as Black women continue to accept their subordinate status in the Black community, Black people will continue their descent into the gutter. Any community that is too foolish to listen to the voices of the women is doomed for failure. I learned the hard way that being a Race Woman has a high price and I cannot afford to do so any longer. No longer will I defend the actions of men who do not give a rat’s ass about women who look like me or my daughters.”
You see, there are persons who consciously or unconsciously look at me and decide I have to choose a box to jump into: BLACK or WOMAN. Surprisingly, it is too much for some people to comprehend that I can be both at the same time.
