People always ask me where in the world I meet these guys. Hello…I live in California! Los Angeles has streets paved with hotties–no lie. That both a blessing and a curse, because there’s so many great looking people, folks are always on the hunt to upgrade. Come here to play and maybe get a boyfriend or two, but don’t uproot yourself because you think you’re going to meet and marry the future father of your 8 kids.guys

NYC, Loving Day, event, dating, mixed relationships, black women, marriage, biracial, blended families, meet and greet, celebration, history,

Today is a big day in the interracial dating community. It’s the day (and weekend) we celebrate the landmark Supreme Court decision, Lovings vs. State of Virginia, which outcome facilitated the legalization of interracial marriage in the United States. Little did two unassuming country folks like Richard and Mildred know that their stubbornness and commitment to their love would literally change the world. It’s because of them that we are all here and enjoying love across color lines and forging new, supportive communities and alliances. I am truly grateful for their bravery. It is because of their love, bravery and commitment, that others found the courage to stand up for the people they loved, proud and unashamed.

the_lovings_042611-thumb-640xauto-2929

Life and love aren’t nearly as hard as it was for the Lovings, and you have to ask, are you brave enough to allow yourself to be loved, and judge a man or woman for who they are on the inside? Are you brave enough to pursue the type of men and women you have always wanted?

One such fan has done so, and has agreed to share her experience as long as I kept her anonymous. For those of you with delicate sensibilities, steel yourselves–the letter gets a bit steamy at parts. 😉

Christelyn,

What I want to share with you seems so petty in light of the serious discussions that are going on, but I wanted to share that my babe and I met over the weekend. He is such an awesome guy. He proudly held my hand during our afternoon meal and kept telling me how beautiful I am. He liked and commented on the contrast between the colors of our skin. He kissed my hands. He is too adorable in person! He smelled so good!! I am wearing a tee shirt right now that he brought to me with his scent on it….mmmmm…His cologne is so sexy… We went across the street so that we could have Starbucks instead of dessert after our meal, we both love coffee. The Starbucks was inside a Target store. He proudly grabbed my hand and he stopped and kissed and hugged me while we browsed. His kisses are hot!! (OMG!!!) I actually enjoyed the looks we got being together. I was smiling and laughing. One WW actually made a favorable comment when he and I were fussing about a skirt that I liked. I had promised to wear jeans, but wanted to wear a skirt, and he said that I should have worn a skirt and I said that I promised to wear jeans so I did (which he liked me in….very much, he’s a “behind” man!) lol!! The WW said it sounded like her and her husband at home and was smiling at us. She was around our age.

I will forever be grateful to God for stumbling upon your FB page around this time last year. I am living a completely different and better life than I ever thought was possible for me as a black woman, and for a woman my age. I have NEVER been treated this well. There was one back in 1994 who came close, but not quite like this. I hope to see him again this weekend. We live about 2 and a half hours away from each other. I might be going to where he is because my daughter is going on vacation with a classmate and her family for a week. I don’t know though because he makes my panties really wet, and I’m not ready to give it up quite yet!!! lol!!! Hopefully this is not TMI, but I have also never experienced this level of physical desire with a BM, and I think it is because my heart feels safe. All he has to do is open his mouth and speak, like asking me how my day was, and there we are….He talks confidently, but not arrogantly about pleasing ME!! Wow!! BM have always wanted to know what I was gonna do for them, but never what they were going to do to please me!! My babe has told me EXACTLY how he intends to please me, giving me pleasure “that I have never known”, because, “you deserve it”. He has blown me away.

I cannot help but love him because he is a long awaited answer to a prayer. He had a heart attack in 2009 so I have grown protective of him. If I get so blessed to become his wife, I intend to take excellent care of him, and keep him happy. And it will be all my pleasure. This is a man who I can gladly give my all to, and submit to.

Hugs and love, Chris…Thanks so much for everything!!! I’ll keep you posted.

If you live anywhere near the East Coast and didn’t go to the Loving Day flagship event in New York City earlier this month, you might want to kick yourself. Over 1,000 people attended and drank Ashai beer, danced, and got their faces and appendages painted, courtesy of InterracialDatingCentral.com. I was lucky enough to go last year and it was non-stop fun, true community, and about the best place on the planet to snag someone open to dating a rainbow.

Our roving reporter, Eli Daniels got a chance to interview one of the couples, too.

Candace and Larry: The Funny Couple

10468328_10103450870010865_861481155_o

What’s your loving story? How did you two meet?
L: I stalked her for many years. We have mutual friends.
C: I saw him 5 times before our first conversation. Timing was off because we were both in relationships. On May 25, 2011 we were finally both single. We make 3 years next week.

What are your ethnic backgrounds?
C: I’m Trini.
L: I’m English and British. C: You’re Chinese too.
L: Had to think there for a sec. I’m English obviously showing my support for England today.

Larry, what is your favorite thing about her?
C: The list is so long. Her sense of humor. Her all around fun and outdoorsiness. She just got her Masters Degree (in Human Resources Mgmt). I’m very proud.
Candace, what is your favorite thing about him?
C: What I love most about him is I can be myself around him. He accepts me for who I am and all my Trini craziness.

What was she wearing on your first date?
L: A black and white dress. Very tight. Curvy, what I like.
C: Ok, you get bonus points.

Mamusu & Chris: The Engaged Couple

10477672_10103450865724455_511558219_o

What’s your loving story?  How did you two meet?
M: We met online
BBW: <jaw dropped>  Really??!!!  You guys are giving me life right now!
M:  <laughing>  Apparently it works.  I thought it was a waste of time and then he messaged me.  We talked for two weeks on  the phone and we met on June 29th, 2012.  It was a 12 hour date in Manhattan going everywhere…walking, talking, and laughing.

Chris, how did you know that she was the one?
C:  It just clicked.  I knew more than you [Mamusu] did.  Something just felt right in talking to her.  I just kind of knew.
M:  I was skeptical.
C:  After meeting up, I realized I wanted to be with you.
M;  I was skeptical.  I’ve been hurt in the past, but I know I want to be with you.

Chris, what is your favorite thing about her?
C:  The way she looks at me, but I don’t know if it can be just one thing.
Mamusu, what was it about Rich that made you do a double take?
M:  You just have a way about life.  You don’t care what anyone thinks.  In everything, you’re just you.  Wherever we go we have a good time.

What are your ethnic backgrounds?
M:  I’m Sierra Leonian, 1st generation American.
C:  I’m Italian/Irish.

Have you two had a “Guess Who’s” moment yet?
M:  I told my mom and there was never anything negative.  She was very welcoming and knew I was determined to be with whoever I wanted to be with.
C:  My family was like, “Its about time!”  Somebody was going to do it.  She was welcomed into my family with open arms.
M:  His family is from Maryland.  I met his cousin and he picked up off the ground and said, “Future cousin-in-law!”.  We did not have to deal with any negativity.

As this day is 11 years in the making and Loving v Virginia made a love like yours legal only 50 years ago, what does this day and celebration mean to you?
M:  It means a lot.  It breaks my heart that we could have been arrested.  <looking at Chris> I cannot imagine being without you.  This is a historical event that made it possible for us to have our wedding next year.  Everyone deserves to be happy and in love.
C: <speaking freely>  It always felt right with her. There are bad and good days.  Even on those bad day, I would get frustrated, but think,

“This is my woman.” It was timing more than anything.  You’re literally my best friend.  The little things we click on.  I can’t wait to have kids with you.

Shavonne and Rich: The Kind Couple

10472114_10103450868184525_1878998957_o

What’s your loving story? How did you two meet?
S: I was in med school overseas and decided to try online dating. We met online. His first line was great. Do you remember what you said to me?
R: “You have great skills for a zombie apocalypse.”
S: For two years it was hard to come back every now and then, but we knew it was worth it.
R: I’m ex-military. So I’m used to Google Chat and technology definitely helped with us.

What are you ethnic background?
S: I am Haitian.
R: I am Taiwanese.

Rich, what is your favorite thing about her?
R: She has a kind air about her. A kindness in her heart.

Shavonne, what was it about Rich that made you give him a chance?
S: I’m really shy and no one made me feel as comfortable as he did.

What was she wearing on your first date?
R: Jeans and a blue top.
S: That is not exactly what I was wearing. What kind of trim?
R: I was a orange trim and it was ruffled.
S: We were going to see “X-Men: First Class” but it was sold out. So we decided to talk first and I was nervous. We went to a restaurant, the movies, and then dessert. It was a 9 hour first date and we didn’t want it to end.

Have you two had a “Guess Who’s” moment yet?
R: I met her family in the 1st two months. I’m all about family. My family was really nice and supportive. But I did have some cousins have made comments and I would tell them I have a black girlfriend.

As this day is 11 years in the making and Loving v Virginia made a love like yours legal only 50 years ago, what does this day and celebration mean to you?
S: We’re grateful that someone had to go through that hurdle for us to be here.
R: I think its awesome and a big breakthrough. Its an F.U. to the system. I grew up with racism: internal & external. I’m still disgusted. For me, I’m really happy it was for everyone. I love seeing people like us.

Carl and Shama: The Sweet Couple

10492859_10103450871123635_1116852955_o
How did you two meet?
S: We met in college.

Carl, what is your favorite thing about her?
C: She’s very funny and beautiful.

Shama, What was it about him that made you do a double take?
S: He’s really weird. He gets my attention that way.

Have you two had a “Guess Who’s” moment yet?
Both: What’s that?
I explained the movie plot from the 1967 film.

S: I’ve met his mom and she’s really accepting, but he hasn’t met my family yet.

What made you give Carl a chance?
S: He actually made me give another guy a chance. He’s a part of my past and now my present.

As this day is 11 years in the making and Loving v Virginia made a love like yours legal only 50 years ago, what does this day and celebration mean to you?
S: We appreciate what people fought for and that we get to enjoy each other.

I’ll be attending the 11th annual Loving Day celebration in New York City this coming Saturday. I hope to see some our regular readers there since this would be the perfect opportunity to hang out in a place that you know, for sure, is supportive of interracial dating.

In the event that you need someone to hold your hand, or whisper encouraging words in your ear, I’ll be around to lend a hand.

I’ve invited some folks along to hang out with me, and this is the second post on this site regarding the celebration. I gather those who are serious, and available will make their best effort to come out and be seen.

I’m still trying to determine what I’m wearing this weekend but keep an eye out for the girl with the huge kinky afro. You can also keep up with me via Foursquare or online via Twitter. Remember to RSVP by visiting FlavorPill and dress for the warm weather, it’s been raining here all week but so far it seems that Saturday will be a dry warm day.

Wondering what happened last year during the Annual Loving Day Celebration? Me, Chris and several of the beautiful ladies found ourselves in Manhattan with a video camera and here’s what had happened.
