Ah…this made my Sunday. From The YBF:

It looks like the couple had a little sleepover the previous night as Zoe was spotted outside her home yesterday morning chomping on some cereal while waving goodbye to her man as he took off to play tennis.  Well isn’t that sweet.

Kinda love these two together.  We’ll see if they stay a couple long enough to the hit the red carpets for Bradley’s upcoming Hangover 3 movie.

…And THEN, we can talk about Bradley starring in a role in the upcoming Swirling movie.

Well, one can dream.

I find it funny that people like Zoe don't want to claim thier black ancestry. Now I did hear her say she is a black woman and proud of it. Living in "Explicative Deleted", like it or not, its gonna be that way for mixed people. Anyway, people like Zoe think that blacks NEVER accomplished anything in life. They think or was taught (just like here in the US) that blacks didn't do a damn thing but be slaves. I guess this is why people like Zoe don't want to claim being black. But my my my are they mistaken.

Ms R 5 pts

@ Mrs lav- Zoe has said many times in many articles, "I am a Black Woman. " You can't deny the fact that she is Dominican, but she CLEARLY embarces and is aware if her African ancestry.

I'm only replying to lovelylolo's statement that she considers herself Latina and not black.

So which is it? Is she black or Latina not black? Every interview she does is different apparently. I have not seen any of the articles. I was just saying I'm not surprised if she does consider herself to be Latina Hispanic and nothing else.

Lovelylolo

She actually said in an interview last year that she considers herself Latina and she is not black so since then I haven't been crazy about her. Her family is from the caribbean but she rejects her OBVIOUS black blood which makes me want to reject her. I guess our eyes are all deceiving us...

I'm not surprise of her denying her heritage even though she plays African American roles. All of those island people or like that. No one wants to be black. Black people were slaves and had to sit on the back of the bus and come in the back door. None of them want to be associated with that. I think they are opportunist. Like the biracial slaves who used to pass for white. They are whatever will get them further in life. Like the puerto ricans. It is convenient  to be Latina 99% of the time especially in California.

I know this puerto rican lady who applied for a job as Latina but when she found out  they had met there quota she changed her ethnicity to black of African descent to get the job. She did get the job and is working as someone of African descent. Just depends on how the wind is blowing.  Gotta love affirmative action keep the work place equal.

and to sdf I know its not a race it is a culture but they use it as a race. They  are asked what is there race and they answer Latina.

when they should be saying Afro Caribbean/Spanish

Again just folks gameing the system.  Nothing new under the sun.

@mrs lav: While many people will share your opinion, I have to say that the blanket statement that "All of those island people or like that. No one wants to be black. Black people were slaves and had to sit on the back of the bus and come in the back door" is just wrong.

First of all, Caribbean cultures have lots of similarities but many important cultural difference and distinct practices that vary from island to island.  Colorism certainly is rampant, as it is here and throughout the world.  Racism exists, but it isn't necessarily the same as it is here. Social class and country of origin are much more important than they tend to be in the U.S.

Notions of "being black" outside of the U.S. just aren't always identical to what any particular American from the U.S. would want them to be (and let's be honest and acknowledge that people here can't even agree on what they are either...).  The Dominican Republic especially has a very particular history that explains why rejecting a "Black" identity (but not necessarily the presence of African ancestry....though some certainly do that too) was ingrained in many Dominicans.  Cross over into Haiti and it's a completely different story.  Basically the same people genetically, but their histories and conflicts have led to somewhat different views.

Latinos broadly have come here and learned to bend the rules to their advantage.  It doesn't mean that their identities or sense of what their ancestries are change.  That's really an American thing that many people from the Caribbean and Latin America don't buy into.  The social construction of race there is just not identical to what it is here.  Why expect people to act and believe as you do when they are from different cultures with different rules?

Statuesque 1713 pts

mrs Also:  More African slaves went to the Caribbean and South America than came to the U.S.  Acknowledging that history doesn't mean a person has to "be Black" anymore than me acknowledging my Native American heritage means that I need to "be Indian."  A difference, though, is that those slaves and their descendants were much more integrated genetically in some countries.  No one drop rule existed there, and still doesn't.  That whole idea sounds crazy to anyone outside of the U.S.

I beg your pardon! All of us island people are like what?

IS SHE PREGNANT?!?  Don't front like y'all don't see her stomach...and she's been classically trained in ballet, so I don't think her posture is bad.

Not a good look girl; please don't get knocked up by someone who only wants your behind half the time.  (I know, I know...I'm totally just speculating.)

I didn't even know they were dating and had broken up.......I think lol

sdf 6 pts

Lovelylolo you do know that Latina isn't a race right?

@sdf What color is her skin though? That's like someone saying "I'm not white, I'm Irish" or "I'm not a black person, I'm West Indian" I do get the point you are trying to make but hispanic people literally come in every color of the rainbow. I just find it ridiculous when hispanic people who are literally darker skinned than any African American person I've met but they reject their obvious black blood. I know it may be only part of their blood and DNA but I think people should embrace everything that makes up who they are. If you are dominican and dark skinned, then you are obviously both. If you are Asian and Latin, why claim one and reject the other. People need to stop letting society dictate who is of worth and who is inferior, it's disgusting

She actually said in an interview last year that she considers herself Latina and she is not black so since then I haven't been crazy about her. Her family is from the caribbean but she rejects her OBVIOUS black blood which makes me want to reject her. I guess our eyes are all deceiving us...

Brenda55 19278 pts moderator

Why can't she define herself as she sees fit?

Why should she give a fig whether you reject her or not?

@Brenda55 hmmm you have a point, very eloquently put.

Brenda55 19278 pts moderator

Figured I'd have to state it as simply as possible so you'd get it.

Statuesque 1713 pts

I agree with Brenda55.  Also:  She isn't Black (African American) so how can she reject a heritage she doesn't actually have? She is a Latina from the Dominican Republic.  It's known that Dominicans have African heritage.

iHeartLove 804 pts

Statuesque Black isn't just African American. Many ethnicities are considered Black that are not African American. The words are not interchangeable.

Statuesque 1713 pts

iHeartLove Race and ethnicity aren't interchangeable concepts.  These days race refers to a subcategory of the human species based on continental origin. Ethnicity refers to a subgroup or tribe, usually within a nation.  In the U.S. calling someone "Black" is frequently conflated with calling someone "African American," even when that person has no US American ancestry and may be of sub Saharan African ancestry from the Caribbean or Africa.   The reason why I put African American in parentheses was to specify the ethnicity under discussion so there was no confusion.  People use the term "Black" in many ways and it can get confusing.

Zoe may not consider herself ethnically "Black," which would make sense both because she isn't African American and also because many Dominicans, though aware of their African ancestry, don't identify as "Black" racially either.

@iHeartLove @Statuesque What you said is the actually the point I was trying to make. Black and African American are not interchangeable which is important. She didn't say that she isn't African American which is true and completely understandable, but what she did say is "I'm not black" which is completely different.

AminahMatthews 537 pts

 Statuesque

@ Statuesque. Zoe has stated that she is black. Obviously she's one Dominican who's not ashamed/affraid of saying that. Which is cool with me. Samething with Halle Berry.

@Statuesque you are partly right, Dominicans do have african heritage but being black and being African American are 2 completely different things. For example, Dave Matthews family is from South Africa so he is African American but he is not black. If tDomincans spoke a language other than spanish what would you consider them? What if they spoke English like people in the Bahamas, would any question if they are black?

AminahMatthews 537 pts

Wait...I read some where she said she is black. I think Zoe is confused. Then again it doesn't matter if she say she black or not . She will still be treated as such and she knows it.

Brenda55 19278 pts moderator

AminahMatthews So then there is no real problem and the world can continue on as it always has.

R. Kamaria 854 pts

SMH. I've read this story in other online publications and the comments are ridiculous. Both blacks and non blacks are making their relationship all about their race. Folks fighting over whether Dominicans are black, white chicks saying he can do better, black dudes saying that she hates black men. I don't get it. Time to take a step into the 21st century.

AminahMatthews 537 pts

I remember seeing these two at other celeb events on entertainment tonight and E news. But you never saw them with anyone else. She would show up by herself and so would Bradley at different events. That made me realize that these two might not have broken up after all. But I think they were catching MAYBE some heat because he (American sexist man alive) is with a woman of color. African decent. I could be wrong. But you never know.

Patricia Kayden 1669 pts

While I love Zoe, she seems to jump from man to man to man very easily.  Wasn't she engaged to another man?  Or am I so entranced by the elections that she got rid of him and I didn't notice?

She's single and young, so I guess she can date as much as she wants.  Let me stop judging her. LOL!

introvertedwanderer 1056 pts

Patricia Kayden Yeah, she was engaged for a while, but it ended toward the end of last year,  I believe. They were together for a long time though.

This is what happens when you reach the peek of your career like Zoe. Men break up with you when you become more famous then them. I think that is the samething what happen to Kerry Washington too and  her beau.

 Patricia Kayden I am so gonna sic Cocuya on you! - obviously, he's a 'man-whore' and she's a non-celibate slu .... - I mean 'non-Goddess'.

Jamila 7157 pts moderator

Patricia Kayden She was with her ex for like 10 years and since then the only man I've seen her with is Cooper. That hardly qualifies as jumping from man to man.

2 men in 12 years 5 pts

Patricia Kayden She was with the same man for 10 years or so, they got engaged, and broke up a year or so later.  Then she started dating Bradley.  That's only 2 men over 12 years- hardly qualifies as a "jump from man to man very easily."

I don't know. There is just something off putting about a person's first post on a site being snarky and negative. Snarky and funny would have been one thing but snarky and negative is kind of like making an entrance at a party with a belch.

Love them! They are both HOT! Plus he's representing Philly!

KingsDaughter What kind of music? Fender makes a great product. In Pennsylvania it is the land of Martin guitar.

KingsDaughter 4584 pts

Brenda55 I play rock driven contemporary Christian music. I grew up with rock so it kind of stuck ...

Hey I've played a Martin before. A beautiful guitar with a built in mic but the sound was just ok. Not as good as a Taylor, which sounds SWEET.

Brenda55 LOL Let me clarify and say the light rock genre CCM

KingsDaughter I don't find him atttractive at all.  For some reason, this guy, and that clown Ashton Kutcher, both have the same affect on me, which is to annoy me to no end.  I can barely watch either of them in anything.  I end up having to turn the channel.
