How to Feel and Look Beautiful without Makeup

I wanted to do something a little different as a guest post on Beyond Black and White that has been weighing heavy on my chest and that is feeling beautiful about ourselves without makeup. On my blog, Color U Bold I try to make it a point to talk about this issue because even I still struggle with it. Maybe it’s the society that we live in, that makes it impossible to feel good about ourselves unless we are a certain color, a certain hair type, a certain type of body shape, a certain Instagram type. If the beauty industry have not been harsh enough in the past, it seems as though it has just gotten a lot harder to truly feel comfortable in our own skin.

As a young girl I would dream of being another color. I hated the way I look oh and don’t get me started on my lips…those messy comments we seen on Instagram were simply disgusting. If I see that when I was younger I would be wanting to inject something to get RID of my big lips, crazy right?! However as I’ve grown I’ve come to accept my skin tone, I’ve actually come to embrace my lips and love them! Those lips I seen on MAC’s Instagram page made me feel good. I’ve finally been able to accept that my skin isn’t perfect!  As I’ve gotten older I’ve learn to feel more and more beautiful without makeup. Although on my blog and on here I love doing makeup tutorials my style has definitely evolved over the years. I used to pile on a ton of makeup to look beautiful but now I embrace little spots on my face that peek through my skin, I find that endearing and powerful. Don’t get me wrong I love a beat face and those brows need to be on fleek at all times but it doesn’t define me…maybe online but not in real life.

5 Ways to Feel and Look Beautiful without Makeup

Love thy Self!

Firstly, as it is the hardest thing to do, we must figure out some way to love ourselves. Much of us who are older know how to accept ourselves but a lot of the younger girls of the Kylie Generation especially black girls are still lacking in this. If you are a mother, it is imperative to always speak good things about yourself. Never let your daughter hear you saying you are “ugly” or too “fat.” These girls will always remember that and believe that they are ugly too. Remember your daughters are a reflection of you. Girls that hear their mother talk down about themselves are much more likely to say the same thing about themselves, trust me I know! How do you want your daughter to see themselves?

Get Your Body Healthy

Now that we got the real deep issue out of the way it’s time to take that love and put it toward your body in healthy ways. Now I don’t mean trying to lose weight to reach a goal. I’m simply saying eating healthy and drinking more water is a proven fact that it gets rid of acne even adult acne. It gets rid of dark spots and reduces the appearance of dark circles. As black women you know we are prone to those dark spots! When you eat and drink right you feel so energized whether you are skinny or voluptuous and that makes you feel better about yourself.

Don’t get crazy with the eye brow tweezers!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve over plucked and hated how I looked until I was able to grow them back! Many black women normally don’t have naturally dark thick eyebrows so we often feel that it’s important to darken them with eyebrow products. My tip is to let them grow out! Yes they will look terrible and you will want to take a razor and some clips to them but be patient. You’ll at least be able to not have to fill your brows in as much in the long run. Just take a spoolie and drag them toward the end of your brows. When you are in desperate need to pluck or tweeze simple tweeze where there are hairs sprouting on the outer parts that’s it.  An awesome tip is drinking cucumber juice for quality of hair. Kiwi juice for growth and strawberry juice for strength so pull out your blenders and make a concoction!

Go natural with your skin care

There are a range of natural products for every skin type but what I love most is natural, simple, and understandable ingredients. For exfoliated lips get some sugar and Vaseline and scrub! Scrub face with honey and sugar for a brighter complexion (less dull). Exfoliation is the key to always having a flawless face and when you put on your makeup you don’t have to worry about flakes and that dreaded cake face!

Always moisturize!

When they say black don’t crack they mean it! We always moisturize and if you don’t you need to start regularly every day and night! Get a day and night cream. For day cream find lotion with SPF even dark skin complexions need this. For night cream I recommend a moisturizing mask! By the way always get your neck lotioned up as that ages before anything!

These are my tips on feeling and looking beautiful without makeup! We all are soooo beautiful never let society tell you differently. When I eat and drink right my face looks brighter and it brings out the natural melanin in my skin pure dark beauty! When my eyebrows are looking on fleek without brow products I know I’m doing something right. When I exfoliate my skin looks so much brighter and alive and moisturizing makes you look young and vivacious for years to come. Lastly loving yourself is the biggest beauty lifter of all!
