Eve Lands New Interracial Comedy Sitcom on ABC

Well, well, well. Looks like Eve is having an awesome start to her 2014. With a billionaire at her side, and a refined and mature image these days, there doesn’t seem to be anything this former Philly native can’t do. Congratulations are in order. Eve has just snagged a new sitcom on ABC, about an interracial relationship, no less. You just can’t make these things up, it seems like the power of two, opens doors twice as quickly.

ABC has closed a deal for a multi-camera comedy project to star actress-rapper Eve, from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and  ABC Studios. The project, which is eyed for the 2014-15 development season, is looking for a writer.

I hear Kaplan approached Eve (full name Eve Jeffers) with the idea for a multi-camera interracial romantic comedy. The two pitched it to ABC, which bought the project with penalty. Eve and Kaplan (ABC’s The Neighbors) will executive produce the series. ICM Partners represented Eve previously when they top lined her eponymous sitcom on UPN and snagged her role in the very popular Barbershop movie franchise. [Source]

I am a fan of Eve, both when she began as a member of the rap group Ruff Riders, and when I saw the video concepts for her solo projects, I realized there was more going on to this young women than met the eye.

Since that time, she’s expanded the expectations of female rappers, including a persona that took no ‘ish, but also had an empathetic, tender side. Her descriptive verses developed the background of her visual representation.

A hardcore rapper, only because she was so good she often outshined her male counterparts, Eve pushed the envelope. No denial of her womanhood, or alliance to woman, or dependence on perverse sexuality to be interesting. I applaud her, now, because she bought the subjects of Domestic Violence to hip hop, and didn’t bother to include the wailing woman in the narrative.

So, will you be looking forward to Eve’s new project?
