Without getting into details so’s I don’t sully my place here, I have had a very, very, very, VERY bad day. I have been hurt and betrayed in the worst way by folks who I thought were friends (or at least allies), and I have failed to see any humor in anything right now.

That’s why I’m going to step away from this blog for a few days and try to regroup my thoughts and what my next steps should be. Needless to say there’s not much funny about that.

But not to worry–I’ve got my big girl panties on. The show will go on–there will still be posts, I just need…a break.

Sorry guys.

Here is a better version of the video I posted earlier. So I'll just call this my contribution to Friday Funny.

For those of you in this excellent group who didn't see my post on the BB&W Facebook page, I'm reposting it here. It's my expression of support for Christelyn, because I feel like I've found a home here. You've all been great!

Okay, from everything I've read about this movie, including seeing a couple previews, I'll say this. I had planned on seeing it at the theater, because of both the subject matter and the fact that George Lucas made it. I've changed my mind about that, for the reasons stated by others on the treatment of BW through a total lack of representation.

I think it's probable that the final product is flawed in this way because Lucas allowed others to control it. Someone said that it was the BM who had the control. I wonder about that a bit, because, as I understand it, some of the remaining Tuskegee Airmen were advisors, and I have my doubts that THEY would advise leaving their wives and girlfriends and daughters completely out.

I also understand that there WERE a few BW who were cast and filmed for this movie, but their parts were left on the cutting room floor. If blame is to be cast for that, my first choice would be the person who actually edited the film. That person may or may not have taken direction from others; I don't know, and I suspect that nobody on the posted blog, or the BB&W blog, knows either.

As for the way Christelyn is being treated, I think people need to just back up and think about things. To put someone on blast because you disagree with her (or him) is childishly immature. We each have a brain with which to think our own thoughts, observe things for ourselves, and deduce what is best for us, and take action or not based on those deductions. To lambast someone as some have done Christelyn is just plain wrong. Does she not, just like you, have the right to act on her own behalf, based on her own observations, reasoning and deductions? Why, then, would you rake her over the coals for doing so? Is your own self-esteem so poor that you can't stand for anyone to do something you, yourself, wouldn't do? For shame!

I'll most likely see this movie eventually, because Lucas made it and I love his action sequences. But I won't be paying to see it. I'll wait for it to be available as a free download or come on TV instead. Dang, I didn't mean to write a whole freaking blog here, but I said what I think needs to be said. And if anyone doesn't like it, it's no sweat off of my back.

Is BWE a cult? Are women who are in support of BWE suppose to think, feel and act alike and swing to the feelings of one or more blogger?. I am beginning to get scared here now, because the choice to see or not to see a movie is not that big of a deal. I wont be on my deathbed looking over my life and saying I wish I had never seen Redtails. It's just not that serious of an issue. This movie should not be the measure by which BWE loyalty and values are measured.

I cannot stand this pervasive notion of superiority and elitism that I see constantly sweeping through in one form or another. It's like some say "I refuse to see this movie therefore you are not like me, you cannot be like me, because I have not stooped to your level to watch this movie thus, I am better than you." Get over yourselves. Life comes and life goes and there are bigger battles to fight. How many of y'all worried about Redtails are equally worried about black women becoming the new face of prostitution in Europe? How many are worried about the human trafficking of black women and girls globally?

I know BWE is AA focused, but until Chris came on the scene I had not seen one of those bloggers ever offered to assist young black women in any tangible way. Chris is not perfect, and I certainly do not agree with all of her opinions, but I will give her kudos for taking the initiative to assist young black women and teens in a tangible way. It's great to blog all you want, but if someone doesn't find your blog they will never get the message. Also Brenda who has dipped down into her pockets to give young black women and teens books and what have you. Not even a contest any of the others ever offered on their blog to give someone a chance to read their book, or webcast. Spare me!

*puts on best baby voice* Sowwy, Chrissy :(

I guess you're just learning (again, and again...) that at the end f the day, most people are not very friend-ly and don't notice or care when their actions may hurt other people.

You are a very people-oriented person, like I am, but the difference is you care a lot about what these people think and actually invest in them! I may be jaded, but I stopped doing that after the 612th time I was slapped in the face by those I thought were friends. People are quite flaky and unreliable, and will throw you under the bus to advance themselves or to prove a point. You can make acquaintance with people but don't put your heart out there. That puts you in a very vulnerable position.

And I wouldn't align myself with movements or groups of people because they tend to be stringent about what sort of behavior will be allowed by group members. Hence why I write uplifting things about black women, but I'm not a BWE blogger, write feminist topics but not a feminist blogger, write about social issues but not a social activist blogger.

That said, I support all BWE bloggers but more importantly, those whose writings feature and support black women. You don't need a group or a label for that, just continue the positivity.

AleeL That's exactly what I did, Alee. I'm slowly getting it though. There's going to be some big changes in me and how I interact with folks.

Christelyn, I am truly sorry to hear what happened to you. Its your story and many other stories you have posted of interracial relationships that has inspired me to look beyond for an honest and loving relationship. Please remember that the work you do inspires us young ladies to strive for better. Thank you for all that you do, especially for BWE :-)

cns 115 pts

I'm slightly confused. This is about a choice to see a movie or not. I remember a similar debate about the movie The Help. Most of the BWE were against supporting the movie because they felt the image of black women was not uplifting. I almost did not see the movie because of some of their opinions. I am happy to say that I found the movie enjoyable and I felt that the black lead characters as human, loving, kind, generous, positve and dignified. The movie mad me reflect on my own grandmother who was a maid. I will tell you this, my great-grandmother with her maid salary made sure that I and my brother had brand new clothes every beginning of the school year because her grandson, my father was to busy getting high to support his own children. I will always be appreciating of what my great-grandmother did for me. Regardless of her job or career she was always loving and dignified to me. As a result I will be see Retails because those black men (not the actors) deserve all of America's respect for what they did and maintained their dignity will doing it.

Brenda55 4316 pts moderator

cns Now this is what I'm talking about. There was a similar discussion about the movie "The Help" and black woman's image in it. Why did the discourse blow up the way it did for "The Red Tails". I would have expected the same kind of discussion as was had with the movie "The Help".
