Benny Hill got on the PC brigades tits after a while. Anyway I think Mr Bean is still hilarious!

Speaking of British humor, is anyone else here familiar with Lil Miss Jocelyn? Jocelyn Jee Esien's journey is amazing and inspiring. She's the first (and so far, only) Black woman in the world to ever write and host her own sketch comedy show on a major TV network (BBC). Some of her sketches are hit-or-miss, but when she's on-point, she's HILARIOUS!!! I especially love it when she unleashes a character on an unsuspecting person. She got so popular though that everybody started recognizing her on the street lol.

I have a boxed set of Benny Hill videos and featured his on my public access show all the time I much prefer his humor to Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) or Monty Python... BH writes sings dances acts he does it all, hilarious- he gives you that "what did I just do??" disarming grin. He always makes me laugh, most def the step-son of Charlie Chaplin.

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

DeeDeeRussell I don't think most ppl realize that Benny was multi-talented. He was in Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang wasn't he if I remember correctly?

DeeDeeRussell 722 pts

eugeniamitchell yes, he was the toymaker!

David Bajt 15 pts

I agree. Benny Hill had an awesome show. I grew up watching all of them. I'd have to say though, Bob Todd and Jackie Wright, the older supporting actors in his show gave him a run for his money. They were absolutely hilarious. DeeDeeRussell _

If you like the 'silent' Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson), you gotta watch Blackadder sometime. That too is some great English comedy. Benny Hill is one of my all-time favorites, along with the Dave Allen show, On the Buses, The Two Ronnies, Some Mothers Do Have 'em. What an era!

ForestElfQueen 2112 pts

David Bajt ITA, Blackadder rocks!

ForestElfQueen 2112 pts

@eugeniamitchell, I have BBC America but they show mostly dramas and sci fi. Love Idris Elba in Luther!!!

@DemiB, I agree Benny Hill is harmless

Has anyone ever seen the british comedy Only Fools & Horses? I discovered it on youtube, it's hilarious.

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

jamaica68 Luther was fabulous, I love that channel. I got the BBC and BBC America, the American version doesn't show many of the comedies I notice too. I also have CBC, which shows many British comedies and Canadian ones which are hilarious too.

StephG 14 pts

I love the snarkiness of British humor.Absolutely Fabulous and Faulty Towers fit into this category definitely!

Renee Mimms 77 pts

They used to play Benny Hill on one of the local tv stations here on the weekends. My mom would sigh and roll her eyes while I would be laughing like crazy. They've changed the schedule and starting playing Dragnet instead, which isn't so bad. Netflix has Benny Hill on Instant now, along with Monty Python's Flying Circus.

DemiB 19 pts

Benny Hill is harmless fun. No harm, no foul. Loosen up, fellow Americans!

DemiB 19 pts

I love anything Gordon Ramsay or the show, "Come Dine With Me." When I had cable, BBC would be the only channel I'd watch. Gordon is hella sexy.

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

DemiB Love Gordon Ramsay, "Kitchen Nightmares' is one of my favorites. He has got the filthiest mouth ever but it is hilarious.

What was deemed sexist and offensive on Benny Hill decades ago seems positively innocent today. Yes, he had a lot of T & A and slapstick; but in today's age of male genitalia and flatulence humor, Hill comes off as high class.

jamaica68 34 pts

OMG, this brings back a lot of memories, I remember watching this in the UK. I love british comedies it's too bad they don't show more in the US.

Mr. Bean is crazy LOL

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

jamaica68 You get BBC? or BBC America? Well that is if you have cable.

The Working Home Keeper 1484 pts

I've never watched Benny Hill. But I LOVE Keeping Up Appearances! And Are You Being Served?

Jazmine 178 pts

Yes! How could I forget Are You Being Served? I remember watching it for the first time on PBS wondering how they got away with talking about Mrs Slocombs p***y. LOL I still watch it when I see that it's on. I believe it's still one of the funniest shows on TV. "And I am unanimous in that."

Renee Mimms 77 pts

Jazmine I wish they still played Are You Being Served? on the PBS station here. I loved watching that show!

MadamCJCPA 725 pts

The Working Home Keeper I have the entirety of these two series on DVD from Amazon.com. My husband and I watched all of "Are You Being Served?" together.

Hyacinth, and her candlelight dinners are for my amusement.

I wonder if there are any Brits embarrassed by Benny Hill the way some Americans were embarrassed by Pauly Shore?

Monty Python FTW!

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

AlsatiaWatley Why would anyone be embarassed by Benny Hill, he's a national treasure over there with a long running career as an actor. Pauly Shore wishes he was that funny.

AlsatiaWatley 6 pts

eugeniamitchell to each his own. if it makes you feel any better, my mom thought he was a hoot.

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

AlsatiaWatley Why would your mom liking him make me feel better? You certainly don't have to like him but to compare him to Pauly Shore is a bit of an insult.

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

Yea that would be kind of like comparing Monty Python to those kids on Jacka$$ and although they are amusing, that's a stretch.

Soul_Incites 235 pts

I loved watching Benny Hill growing up. And I LOVE Monty Python. They have a major influence on my quirky, absurdist sense of humor. eugeniamitchell

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

Soul_Incites I wasn't a Monty Python fan at first but have become one. The other day on IFC I watched 'The Life of Brian' and I was busting my sides laughing.

ann4950 Well you don't have to like it but we all can have the choice to think what we like is funny or not. Some of saw for what it was farce. Geez take a chill, it's not that serious.

Jazmine 178 pts

Mr. Bean is GENIUS...not one word spoken and I'm on the floor dying with laughter.

Christelyn 3167 pts moderator

Jazmine OMG I can not watch Mr. Bean without tissues nearby...OMG hilarious to the point of tears!

Toni_M 4712 pts

Brenda55 I love Mr. Bean's comedy SO much. The trigonometry/calculus exam sketch remains my favorite to date.

eugeniamitchell 3482 pts

I love Rowan Atkinson, period, he is hilarious. I loved Blackadder, Thin Blue Line, Johnny English he's just funny. He wrote for the magazine 'Car' he's a automobile aficiando but surprisingly his writing was kind of dry. And good lord, I love Dame Edna, I don't know what is but British people have this wonderful humor.
