Heat-Free Bantu Knot Updo

Here’s a style that you can wear for a holiday gathering that chic and mature, and best of all, no heat needed.

Here’s How…

Step One

Start with clean, damp hair. I like to use a leave-in conditioner from the Quidad line. Use a seamless comb to part and separate your hair in five sections–two in the front, one in the middle, and two in the back.

Step two

Smooth one section and twist into a bantu knot, and pin it. I seriously love Goody Spin Pins. The mini sizes work best for smaller bantu knots. Do each section until you have five, neat buns all over your head. Make sure you tuck in those ends so you won’t have frizz!

Here’s a tutorial

Step three

Tie your hair up in a silk scarf overnight to set. Don’t unroll the knots until your hair is completely dry.

Step four

Lightly coat your fingertips with an oil or no-frizz serum and carefully unroll the buns. Be careful not to manipulate the twists too much or you’ll risk frizzy hair. Lift your hair FROM THE ROOTS and then gently separate the curls until you’ve ‘froed your hair out a bit.

Step five

Double up a thin, elastic headband and slip it over your neck. then slowly push it back onto your curly fro until you’ve reached the desired hold.

Then…ta-daa!
