HELP! Ten Year Anniversary Coming, No Fracking Idea What To Do!

It’s brainstorm time!!

We met in 1999, in a Yahoo chat room. Little did I know my slacking off would lead to such a wonderful life, full of ups and downs, highs and lows. My husband is amazing–great dad, provider, lover, plus he’s funny. In fact, much of the humor you see on this blog is because after 13 years, his dry wit has rubbed off on me.

So on April 27, 2012, we’ll be married a whole decade. Which I find hilarious, because I know there were some folks at the wedding who thought we wouldn’t last 10 months. So to them I say…

NEENER, NEENER NEEEEEEEEEEEEENEEEEERRRRRRRR!

Okay, so with that out of the way, I need some gift ideas. The Hubster is so easy that he’s complicated to buy for. He likes to build things–tools and stuff. But am I seriously going to buy him tools for our anniversary? He also could care less about clothes and shoes, so forget even suggesting that. We like to travel, but it’s just not in the budget. I would have loved to have gone back to Maui, where we spent our honeymoon. That place rocked, but I didn’t really get a chance to take it all in, because I was so preoccupied with the move to our first home, which was in escrow while we were making whoopee with the ocean waves crashing in the distance.

So, I’m open to suggestions. Be creative. Impress me.

BTW, Have you new folks seen The Hubster? He’s pretty cute…

I'm gonna guess since your hubby is a hard working guy on the job and is doing all of that daddy stuff when he is at home he may like the gift of time.

How about packing the kids off to the baby sitter (grandma?) for a weekend and then making it all about him.

Congratulations! and wishing you many more years of marriage! Maybe a cruise or something!

Congrats to you and your dear hubby.   The pictures are AWESOME. You both are (still) glowing, and its wonderful to see.  I know how love looks on a woman, but its really touching to see how a man who is really loved looks.  Your husband looks absolutely LOVED.   Wonderful indeed.

Now about an idea gift:  I find that gifts from the heart can stand the test of time.....A (small) beautiful leather blank book.  Small enough for easy travel.  Chris, fill the book with *EVERYTHING* about your hubby that makes you happy, loved and cared for.   FOR.  HIS.  EYES.  ONLY.    Straight from your heart, written by your hand....  Now, remember, no crying!   You'll stain the page, and the ink will run!

Congrats again to you both!

Congrats on making it to such a  milestone.  I agree with someone who said a vows renewal and re-dedication to each other would be great.  Also write your hubby a wonderful letter or poem, something just for him that fully expresses how you feel about him as a husband and father.  Men like to be appreciated, but in our digital world, taking the time out to pen our feelings shows deep respect.

celebrate more than a day...celebrate the whole week or the month by just spending lots of time together..get the kids away for a couple of hours every day for a week...so you can just enjoy each other...by watching sunsets...cooking each other dinner..or taking a class together....and giving each other homemade gifts..at the end of the week or something...OK the over all theme..is spending a lot of time..together...and do things..that have been put off...

Go away for a long weekend somewhere. Take the kids to the grandparents house.

A nice bed-and-breakfast might be really nice for a weekend.

Chris! This is off topic but there is no forum for ideas. Have you seen the DR phil show about the black polygamist family. There were in an open marriage.  It was something else. I heard evia write on this about BW actually seeing this as an option. Terrible.

As for the hubster, buy him something for the car, he will like that.

Congratulations! Sounds like hubby has it covered but if you want to go to a yummy upscale eatery for a special eatery...Trulucks in San Diego has awesome food. The atmosphere is romantic, the whole lobster meal was amazing and service was impeccable.

So, I know I said this before but it's worth repeating: Your husband is a total hottie. On a major level.

That is all.

I say first and foremost congratulations... AMEN 10 years.... I say renew those vows but with words that describe how you both evolved into each other. I love Catalina Island as a quick get away of do something kitchy like Vegas Drive through chapel for fun... Enjoy and many more to come Christelyn.

The traditional gift for the 10th wedding anniversary is something made of tin or aluminum. But the modern equivalent is a diamond. like some of the posters below I don't know how your financial situation is, but I'd say go for the diamond. Someone else mentioned a cruise. However, on a cruise they feed you about ten times a day and everyone gains weight.

BTW, I see a VERY happy couple in you and Michael! Its great to see pictures of people who are so obviously in love. Best wishes for many more anniversaries.

wherever you go, chris.....have a BLAST!....but i think you better eat your wheaties first. ;-)

Okay, so I wrote this post last night because I really didn't think The Hubster read it that much. Well...he does. I just got off the phone with him, and he told me he read this, and to not do anything. He won't give me details, but he just told me that I need to pack a bag and be ready to go (?) in the morning sometime at the end of March, which makes sense, because his parents will be in town to watch the kids. But dang...where the heck am I going?!

I was going to suggest a weekend in Napa but now you've got something better; a big surprise coming up!

Since your hubby has the anniversary event covered then, I suggest you do your part and take a shopping trip to Victoria's Secret, Fredericks of Hollywood or some other lingerie store for HIS surprise. Enjoy :-) and congrats on your 10 years.

I know money is tight, but have you looked at the prices of cruises lately? Costa Concordia aside, cruise vacations are by far one of the safest forms of travel/vacation. I've seen lots of 2-for-1 deals, buy 3 days get 4 more for free, room upgrades, etc. A 3-day cruise might be well within your budget!

Show up naked and bring beer! Seriously, congratulations (it's two years for me). And a weekend away in the wine country at a B & B is probably your best bet.

formavitae 356 pts

You two make a BEAUTIFUL couple, and you have a BEAUTIFUL family! Your husband is really handsome, and you look lovely. I love that last picture of your husband and son. His brown curls are just TOO adorable!

Patricia Kayden 1673 pts

What about local travel? Not sure where you live, but I am sure there is a romantic restaurant/hotel/spa that you and your handsome hubby could retreat to for the weekend of your anniversary.

Congrats on reaching 10 years! And wishing you many many more anniversaries.

AJ2011 2310 pts

Patricia Kayden I was thinking the same. My parents do stay-cations at the downtown Sheraton. I really don't want to know ALL that they do while they're there but they talk about the food and nightlife as a great experience.

Bunny77 2054 pts

I love the staycation idea. Sometimes DH and I will go to a big city (or small bed-and-breakfast in the country) no more than two hours away. We enjoy feeling like tourists in a familiar place, and just getting out of the house is nice. Then we splurge on a nice restaurant, a nice hotel experience and just feel really relaxed after it's all said and done! AJ2011 Patricia Kayden

Browncow 1428 pts

Patricia Kayden I'm also down with the "staycation" idea. A nice B&B an hour away in a country area. Wine, good food, and you in saran wrap and a smile. That would make for a very nice anniversary. Congratulations!!!

Patricia Kayden 1673 pts

Browncow Christelyn is skinny enough to get away with that saran wrap stuff. Not me! LOL. Would result in a divorce.

My mind wont let me do the Man Crush thing so I cant even judge how cute the Hubster is. I can only judge other men into one of two categories. Cuter than me. Not as cute as me. He IS cuter, damn it. Then again, Chris, you are gorgeous. You two do make a fantastic couple.... Happy Anniversary

Grace80 204 pts

How about dinner out and a decent hotel without seeing the kids for like 2 days?

Then **** his brains out, for extra spice visit a sex shop first to find something nice to wear maybe ;)

Maybe you know one of his fantasies you could make true.

The Working Home Keeper 6622 pts

Awwww...congratulations! We'll be celebrating 12 years in the fall. We usually do something low key - dinner, trip to the beach. My husband's gift list consists of only one thing :)

Shulamit 1982 pts

um yum.. Keep the hubster really close cuz he's a keeper.. So you can't afford to go to Maui, however I am sure there is a place in California that has the same atmosphere--near a beach 2-3 hour drive away. I say find that place and stay at a quaint B&B--they're always quite sexy and romantic. Get the candles out, cook for him with only an apron on and recreate that honeymoon.. I am all about the travel destination.

oekmama 1047 pts

Ohmigosh! Mine is in October, so I'm just going to 'borrow' some good ideas and roll with it.

If you're into the theme-related anniversaries: Ten = Tin, Aluminium or diamond...

CALOVE 58 pts

You said he likes to build things I believe. Why don't you get him a scale model of something ( boat, train etc) and he can actually build it with your son helping. My husband knows history and likes to build miniature replica 16-18th century ships etc.. I always associated that with older people and nerds. He is only 30, but definately a nerd..lol Your hubby looks smart as well. I told mine as long as it's not a slave ship, he can build all the old ships he wants..lol

What have you done for other anniversaries?

No ideas. I'm blank and clueless.

However, I do like the last picture the best. Any male can be beside a pretty woman, but it takes a man to be a real father.

Law Wanxi "tis true, Law. The kids worship his underpants, they love him so much.

Law Wanxi I just showed my hubby that pic because they look just like him and my son. Two peas in a pod!
