Documentary film maker. Yep. Check out the trailer:

She’s hustling, writing, hustling, writing, and trying to raise funding for this film, and since I LOVE her AND I LOVE jazz, I’m dedicating today’s blog to trying to rake up some $$ for her.

If you're in the LA area, another fantastic female jazz musician is Paris Strother. You can find her at ParisStrother.com, or on Facebook. She is a graduate of Berklee and currently works with the Thelonius Monk Institute in LA. Her band, King, is blowing up right now, as we speak, with some truly creative and wonderful music.

Just made a donation on Kickstarter. I'm developing my jazz singing chops, and would love to work with women musicians backing me up!

Nice doc. There used to be a woman in the Bay Area who could play the cornet and trumpet like mad, I think her stage name was Phavia Kujichagulia. She also did poetry.

Also, though she's not a horn player, Regina Carter is an inspirational musician who has succeeded in creating a career as a band leader and major creative presence in the world of jazz. Many years ago I saw her all female be-bop group, "Straight Ahead," at a little storefront club in Liemert Park.

Blanc2...Love Straight Ahead, and love Regina Carter, although I didn't know Regina had ever played with them. Good to know.

Will check out Ms. Phavia, as we plan to film in the Bay Area.

Not trying to be difficult, but I don't support amazon, so wonder if there's another way to donate?.

Dear Foosrock!,

You can send a check donation to the production company, Woodshed 1936 Films c/o 3834 Crestway Drive, Los Angeles CA 90043.

At present, however, we've reserved all online donations to the kickstarter campaign so we can meet our pledge goal.

I do understand personal boycotts of particular companies -- I have my own -- but your support would be for us...not Amazon. They're just the conduit we had to sign on with for us to do this thing with kickstarter.

Appreciate your consideration, and thank you for your interest in contributing to this film.

I knew I was going to BE difficult. I'm not residing Stateside. Across the big pond from you. How about paypal or an electronic payment?. Don't even think Swiss banks write cheques anymore......

Foosrock...wanted to follow up with you with a new development that has happened with my film.

It's now a Pasadena Arts Council EMERGE Fiscal Sponsorship project -- which means we can now offer tax-deductions to supporters PLUS, we'll be honoring our kickstarter rewards for contributors who send monies by May 31st.

And all online donations are processed through PayPal. Here's the link to the film's page at:

http://www.pasadenaartscouncil.org/Pasadena_Arts_Council/Pasadena_Arts_Council_-_EMERGE_-_Can_She_Play.html

Or, you can send a check to Pasadena Arts Council fbo (for benefit of) "...but can she play?" at 65 S. Grand Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91105.

Thanks for your support!

the music is beautiful.

Indeed, Earthichick...and the reel doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of what amazing music women such as Tia Fuller, Hailey Niswanger, Lauren Sevian, Claire Daly, Jennifer Wharton -- and the list goes on -- are making that isn't being widely heard. But I plan to change that with my film!
