Fashion

Ladylike Trend- SS 2013

The ladylike girlie, feminine trend continues this year. I don’t know about you, but I am sucker for 20’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s inspired fashion. Those women knew how to dress and kick ass while doing. I would watch Mad Men and Pan Am just for the fashion alone.

It’s rare to see well coiffed and well dressed women (and men) in the age of show everything, but your who-ha lips where women are shunning modesty and opting instead for the quickie no strings attached attire that has become prevalent in our society–and they wonder why no one respects them.

So with that in mind, I have put together some beautiful boards to inspire you to add some lady-like, frilly pieces to your wardrobe. A-Line dresses and skirts and over coats are a must. Pencil skirts can give any woman an hour glass figure and a little black dress should be in every woman’s closet. Style these pieces with some modern ones–graphic or tribal prints, platform heels or ballet flats– to give them a fresh and appealing look.  Feel free to post some pics of what you have put together 🙂

 Belted Cape to Town

Take your belted cape out on the town with this graphic print pencil skirt and black pumps.  Add a oversized black satchel and statement jewelry and you will have  a modern nod to the Mad Men style.

A little black dress should be a staple in every lady’s closet. But adding a colorful tribal scarf, chic-ly draped like a french woman over it and this fun wedge sandal will make you a hit. Add some classic and not so classic jewelry pieces and your friends may beg to raid your closet.

Whichever you choose, you will look stunning in this A-line dress from ModCloth and this cute suede pumps. Add a pop of color with this mint green tote and you will look all fresh and bright, like spring.

Speaking of the lady-like trend, check out this video I came across that Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Union and her gal pals shot featuring the stunning clothes of Miu Miu–Miuccia Prada for those who do not know. The closet alone makes you want to swoon. The video called “The Door” is shot by Ava DuVernay. One of the songs is performed by Oakland’s own Gaopele who makes a cameo.

There are no words, just music–neo-soul. It is a beautiful representation of friendship. Gabrielle is sitting at home mourning the demise of a relationship when a parade of her girlfriends frocked in Miu Miu visit her one at a time, trying to cheer her up. It is a tale of true friendship. Enjoy!
