Living a Better Life – Gratitude for BB&W

I haven’t been around as much lately due to work constraints (which is a good thing). More on this later. But I wanted to take time to share how BB&W has meaningfully impacted my life, to show how blogs and websites like this CAN make a difference.

I believe I found BB&W shortly after it launched. At that time, I was in a really, really bad place. Poor dating decisions had taken a serious toll on my emotional health, which was causing my physical health to decline. I was recovering when I started reading the site. Every couple of weeks or so, there’d be articles on dating, vetting, standards, etc, which helped reinforce the decisions I’d already committed to, for self-preservation. Every time the notion of settling crept into my mind, a horror Question of the Week would pop up and I’d thank God for the growth I’d made.

However, most surprisingly, the biggest growth shaped by BB&W hasn’t been in dating, but rather my career. Last year, I went on a nice Caribbean vacation with lots of time to think. I was bored professionally and decided to get serious about the direction of my career. So many posts and comments on the site really helped me shape my brand as I networked – Lean In, the international career/school coverage, white men as allies, using beauty as a tool and many more. Heck, even the Scandal coverage got me started watching the show and I have fallen in love with the amazingly inspirational woman that is Kerry Washington, though Mellody Hobson is where I aspire to be one day.

After months of heavy career networking, I am at a wonderful crossroads with two extremely intriguing paths before me. One revolves around finance and Wall Street, and would put me in close contact with hedge fund managers, large investors, analysts, etc. The other pertains to public policy and economics and the legislative process. The great thing is that, god-willing, I could knock two birds out with one stone – both would put me in contact with lots of eligible men WHILE utilizing my skillset in more intellectually challenging areas.

Overall, BB&W has given me the knowledge and confidence to use all tools available to ensure I have the BEST life possible. There are so many things that would have never been on my radar without this blog! Today, my life is unrecognizable from several years ago, which I attribute in large part to Christelyn and her mission. Sincere thanks for her vision.
