Merry Christmas to the BB&W Crew!!

Merry Christmas to the BB&W Crew!!

Not to get all mushy and gushy but…I love you guys. I’ve never felt so connected to folks I’d have a hard time recognizing on the street; but here, we’re family. This year is just the beginning though, so buckle up. Next year I plan to make this spot Huffington Post Jr., minus the slave labor and limousine liberal hypocrisy.

A very California Christmas, Old Town Temecula

Well, it’s another Christmas and guess what? I’m still here and not sick of this gig in the least. Thanks to all of you, you’ve given me the opportunity to work the best job I’ve ever had…EVER. Incidentally, it’s pays the least, but…eh. I’m working on that.

Starting January 15 (ish), BB&W will undergo a MAJOR expansion–we’ll have a dedicated lifestyle section, with all the stuff you girls can’t seem to get enough of, like fashion, fitness, healthy living, natural hair care, celebrity news (with a BB&W twist), a section dedicated to personal stories of married and single swirlers, on-location video interviews and tutorials, tips on personal finance, and oh! more of the stuff we already talk about.

Your welcome. Let’s make 2012 the year of BWE, and drive the Trollpanians bat-shit crazy.

Love always,

Chris

Merry Christmas everyone!

Congrats on the planned expansion. Some time ago I had an idea for a group of us to start at BWE online magazine (like the Clutch or Madame Noire, except BWE stuff 100% of the time). I don't know if that's the angle you're taking but if so I would truly love to be a part of it. I would really like to see more coordination between all of the BWE bloggers when it comes to getting the message out and promoting our work and ideas. For example, Halima has a new book coming out in January--all of us should know about it and promote it on our blogs. So where are our promotional efforts?

I think that alking to some of the older BWE bloggers about reproducing some of their major posts on a main BWE hub. This way some of their old posts end up reaching a wider audience and perhaps they (and we) can get some money for our written work through advertising dollars.

If your aren't interest in starting a BWE webzine (which this website kinda already is) Chris, I hope you'll still take some of my ideas; if any of the other ladies are interested in doing this, perhaps we can all put our heads together to come up with a profitable venture? I'm not talking about getting rich (although that would be nice) but just starting a site where we would promote it, get ad revenue, and kick the promotion of the BWE message into high gear.

I feel like BWE has been bubbling underground for a long time now. It's time for us to start getting at much promo as a Ralph Richard Banks. (And yes, I loved RRB's book, but still...)

Jamila...THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO DO!! It's time for us to organize. We need to talk, chica. Give me your digits at info@beyondblackwhite.com Jamila

I think this is a good idea for the BWE, especially since a few bm are beginning to write about bw dating/marrying out. BWE should get theirs before the bm jump on board pretending they were always for bw dating/marrying out.

Jamila 2824 pts

Exactly. If anyone is going to be making money, gaining publicity, getting book contracts, and getting invited to do roundtable events it should be us when it comes to telling our side of the story. We talk about folks like Tyler Perry, but where is a black women with her own major studio? We talk about Essence magazine, but where is our response to Essence? ann4950

Jamila

I have been researching how to start a business through SCORE, Entrepreneuar.com and other business sites This online magazine maybe a good place to advertise.

Christelyn 3210 pts moderator

That's exactly how I feel Jamila. Instead of complaining and whining about how we don't have a voice and no one is telling our stories, WE need to take ownership of it. The technology is relatively cheap and there is virtually no barrier to entry. We don't need any starter capital--we build it and they WILL come. I've worked as a publicist. I know how to publicize. I've worked at a magazine for five years. I know how that works. I suck at HTIML, but I know how to tell folks what to do. lol Jamila ann4950

Well in that case I'm nominating you as CEO and instead of me taking those classes, you can just teach me through an on-the-job training program, lol I'm going back and forth between what classes to take next semester and either I'll end up heavy on the journalism classes or heavy on the business/tech classes. I'm not good enough at this point to be a techie, but I'm learning and eventually I want to fully understand site design, search optimization, etc.,

Agreed! +100!

Christelyn Jamila Thanks again for my copy of the Banks book, C, but yeh, J's observation is a big part of why i dragged my feet to buy it. I really felt like 'Well, duh!!!' when I starting reading all of the press and watching the presentations. ...y'know stolen & regurgitated fire a bit... but i thought I was being touchy. Glad to know I'm not alone. LOL!

I do think this scene should be 'owned' by BW in IRs and the Rainbeaus that love & support them.

In case anyone was wondering why I haven't been commenting on Chris's blog for a while: I had a routine surgery on my foot, which subsequently became infected. I spent an entire week in the hospital with constant IV antibiotics. Finally got home and feeling better, but using a walker is more laborious than I ever imagined. I've been home bound for six week, but am finally able to walk around the house under my own power. I've been watching Christmas movies especially the movie with Ralphie and his Red Ryder BB gun. Love that film! Speaking of movies, there's a really excellent BW/WM romantic movie showing in some of the art theaters rignt now. It's called "My First Day Without You." It's about a German man who comes to the U. S. on a short business trip and falls in love with a beautiful black singer-songwriter. He wants to take her back to Germany, but she doesn't want to give up her career on the chance that their marriage might or might not work. The rest of the movie is about how they resolve the problem. The producer sent me a screener and I thought it was wonderful. Of course, I love B/WM IR movies, but you might like to check it out. It makes a really nice holiday movie.

Worst part of recovery...overdoing it because you feel a little better...take care!

That movie trailer has my "adopted"Latina sister and the women in her family ready for a girls night out. I have been waiting for the facebook announcement on when it is available in Cali.

Mocha Z Reem11 & Christelyn: Thank you all for those kind words. I should be back to normal by my birthday in February. Maybe before. But at least I can function pretty well now. The official release date for "My Last Day Without You" was December 15th, but that was in Germany. It's been making the rounds of film Festivals: Cannes, Lone star, Palm Springs, etc since summer. My guess is it will have a much broader release in the U. S. early next year. I love these BW/WM romantic films. Each one brings people together and makes love truly color blind.

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!! Hope you get everything you want!!

FriendsofJay Glad to hear you're on the mend and just in time! BTW, my birthday is in February too. I am an Abraham Lincoln baby.

FriendsofJay 482 pts

Karla I was born February 10th, just two days before you---but probably quite a few years before. You can call me the old man of the blog. My mom was a genealogy bug. She was able to find out, among other things, that all the males in my British-Germanic line were born in February for over three hundred years. My brother was born Feb. 12, my father Feb 15 and my grandfather Feb 14th. That's amazing.

Glad to hear that you are on the mend. As a retired RN I know exactly what you are going through. You are probability climbing the walls since you are used to being active. Mocha Z has it right. Don't over do, it will just set your recovery back. We are no longer "spring chickens" so it take a little longer to get there but we get there. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

FriendsofJay 482 pts

Brenda55 Thanks for the advice Brenda. I have a tendency to overdo things, so that's a drawback for me. I'm not only not a spring chicken, I would probably qualify as an old rooster. Just about ready to be made into a coq au vin.

But we're having ham with raisin sauce for our Christmas dinner.

Which reminds me it's time to start prepping.

Love you all.

It is good you are feeling better. Have you seen the Snowglobe? Try hulu or ABC Family for viewing. A mystical snowglobe transports Angela (Christina Milian), who longs for the perfect Christmas away from her boisterous family, into an idyllic Christmas winter wonderland.

FriendsofJay 482 pts

ann4950 Hi Ann4950. Yes, I saw Snowglobe last year on a rack of Christmas DVDs and was immediately drawn to it as a Christmas IR romantic movie. What I liked best was that there was no mention of race in the movie at all. True acceptance is what I like like really to see. It's the destiny of this movement.

FriendsofJay BIG CORRECTION!!!

The film is "My LAST Day Without You". [my caps for emphasis]

It's doing the film fest rounds. Mission has picked it up and they have a decent track record for getting indies to the screen, and/or/ DVD. No release date yet in the USA, opened in Germany 15/12/2011. Maybe summer 2012?

Well, anyway, that's what Industry Source Steffie The World's Greatest PA says. We thank you, Steffie.
