Fitz cannot turn his back on Olivia, I'm still in shock... I didn't see this coming.. the Prez bumped off the judge and turned on Olivia, I'm wounded... say it isn't so

You can't even tell it's Shonda Rhimes work. I love that it doesn't have that Greys Anatomy reselling. Great episode. You could see the moment Fitz changed.

Kiwiwriter 613 pts

I have to admit...I haven't seen much of this show. What I've seen has impressed me, but I don't watch that much TV in the first place...no time, and it takes me away from my family. Even though I think Kerry Washington is the kind of girl I would want to date if I was single.

But as a writer, obviously the romance between Fitz and Olivia has to be dragged out. If it's resolved definitively, the drama, tension, and plotline goes away. I think the phrase is called "jumping the shark," from an episode of "Happy Days" in which Fonzie did just that, and the series was terrible thereafter. It's the moment in a TV show when the quality collapses for all time.

My guess is that Fitz and Olivia will tie the knot in the final season of the series, probably in the final episode or scene.

Unless they decide to end the show like "The Sopranos," with ambiguity and 10 seconds of dead air.

It'll be interesting to see how this comes out. I'll probably get the straight dope here.

By the way, one of the original plans for "Law and Order," my favorite TV show, was to ramp up the sexual tension between prosecutor Ben Stone and defense attorney Shambala Green, played by Michael Moriarty and Lorraine Toussaint, both highly talented actors. However, Moriarty (a descendant of Detroit Tiger star center fielder and umpire George Moriarty) quit the show in a huff, angry with the producers, and that plotline was abandoned. Never saw Lorraine Toussaint on the show after that, either.

Brenda55 19617 pts moderator

Kiwiwriter Glad to see you back David.  I would have loved to have seen that plot line on L&O. Michael Moriarty is one of my favorite actors.  I was heart broken when he left the show.  Wonder if he rolls that way in real life?  Would not be surprised if he did.

Kiwiwriter 613 pts

Brenda55 Haven't a clue...the only things I know about Ms. Toussaint is that her family is from the West Indies, she is an expert on landscaping, and did a show with Annie Potts about two girls who grow up together, about them as kids and adults. I don't recall the name of the show. Moriarty is a tremendous actor, and I remember him best as the evil Nazi SS Major in "Holocaust," sending Jews to their deaths and finding legalistic explanations for it. That made him more impressive to me as ADA Ben Stone, becoming a paladin for the law and honor...he was colder than his successor Jack McCoy, and I find it hard to choose between them as favorite characters. He's living up in Canada now, semi-retired.

Kiwiwriter 613 pts

Brenda55 I just checked, Ms. Toussaint's show was "Any Day Now." And guess what? She's in "Scandal!" She plays a pastor's wife who discovers her late husband cheated on her. There's a lousy deal both ways around. A Daily Beast article argues that she should get an Oscar or Emmy for her latest work. Good luck to her.

LOL, well, I don't like Mellie, but I like seeing what she's going to do next or say next. Like when Cyrus tells her Verna died and she's like oh well...RIP...so away, like I was saying......

hahahaha....At this point, I have contempt for her.

dani-BBW 1787 pts

Jamila I love her lines! "I will bury him and then dance on his grave." Ahahahaha

ieishah 779 pts

Jamila Not just you. Like Fitz said, Mellie's the realest of all of them. Still rooting for Fitz & Liv, but I like Mellie. Maybe when his political career is over for trying to marry his mistress, Mellie will become President, Hillary style. I'd watch that show.

Brenda55 19617 pts moderator

ieishah  Jamila This may be sacrilege but I may not be shipping OLITZ much longer.

I may have been blinded by the BW/WM IRR  aspect of the show.  Liv is getting on my last nerve.  If she were a WW acting the way she has been I'd have ripped into her long ago and if Fitz were a BM I would have done the same.

Liv knew that man's situation from the door. I have come to the conclusion that she really never loved Fitz. She is married to her job and is an adrenaline junky. The girl gets off on pain porn.

DarlingNikki69 318 pts

Dani-BBW I whole heardetly disagree with you girl! To just say that they're damaged is a gross over simplification, and a bit obvious. Everyone in that group is damaged to varrying degrees. Fitz, right now, is showing extreme bitchassness by running back to Mellie. He also knows that is somehing that will hurt Olivia more than anything. Mellie is so desperate to look good, and powerful she will take any scraps that were given to her. That peiece of Olivia that made her normal, and human to him was destroyed because of Verna's old cray cray ass. Also, he murdered a woman. At one point he was able to just be the golden boy and not get his hands dirty. The actions of the people who loved, and believed in him, or so he thought, has led him down a dirty road. Also, he believed he was detined to be president. You can't claim to love someone, believe in them, and then do something that goes completely against that.

Bren82 1316 pts

@DarlingNikki69 Does Fitz have no idea that Mellie was also involved in the decision?

ELFergieFerg 7 pts

Bren82  DarlingNikki69 I believe he knows about her involvement. Mellie doesn't care about anyone aside from #1. That's who she is-trying to get ahead by any means necessary. It isn't that he is ok with her involvement, it's that it's easier for him to accept. If he were to tell Mellie about the murder, she'd hold it over him but, she does want him to remain president so she won't say a word!

Olivia on the other hand, tries to do what is best for everyone even if it goes against her own feelings.  She believed in Fitz and was the last person to agree to the rigging.  At that point, it was going to happen whether she wanted to or not but her agreement was as much a way to protect her future as well as those around her. The decision ate away at her and while there are many things she can do she doesn't do murder.  Fitz knows that deep down, she did it out of love and while he is disappointed in her actions, he knows that his actions are beyond anything she'd ever do.

I think that will come out as the season unfolds she and Fitz will end up together.  It isn't that they are over-they're just on hold.

AndreaLThorsen 449 pts

Bren82  DarlingNikki69 Yes. Verna told him. He knows about all of them.

dani-BBW 1787 pts

DarlingNikki69 hahaha! It's okay, that's what makes it fun to discuss! I'm not really an emotionally driven person, I'm more pragmatic. So, it's gonna take a lot more for me to get to a place where I can ship them as having this wonderful, great love. Right now, what I see is chemistry/compatibility and a similar moral outlook, like I've described below. HOWEVER, right now, they are not healthy whole people to me capable of loving someone else in a way that is not harmful to the other person, because of the places in which they are damaged. Fitz has daddy issues and a resulting love deficit, which causes him to be insecure and when he feels insecure and unloved he turns to the first available woman. Unhealthy! And emotionally dangerous for a potential partner! There has to be some kind of catalyst for him to resolve this issue, otherwise it's going to come up again and again. I mean, we just saw him murder someone who brought up his father at an inopportune time! Yooooo.....

Olivia seems to have an obsession with fixing other people/their problems, to the point of her own emotional detriment. As well as the collateral damage of others (Fitz was just the most recent casualty, but there's been Lindsay/Quinn, Abby, David, etc). While she had good motives (trying to protect Fitz from finding out about the election, saving Abby's life from Hollis, etc), WHY is she so driven to play God? Something about it all doesn't seem to stem from a healthy place. I am sure it will all come out as we learn her backstory.

So when her you take her flaws and his flaws, there are directly opposed which results in significant emotional damage. He interprets her "fixing things" through his lens of insecurity as a vote of no-confidence. Without some sort of outside, sane catalyst that helps them individually or jointly work through their issues, I do not believe they can love each other in a healthy way. I would love to see the writers introduce a friend for Olivia, a White House pastor for Fitz or make them remotely stranded, ALONE, in a fire or something for 5 days where they actually talk and are vulnerable with each other. Until then, I can't ship them AS IS.

Does anyone else feel that Liv had this break up coming?

There she is.  Miss Superwoman sitting all alone with no one to comfort her.

Yeah she will go back to her work family but that is all she has.

Foolish woman.

@Brenda55 I've always wanted to ask the question of where Edison came from and how the hell he and Liv came together. He was like an alien from outer space coming to earth: very unexpected. I sensed no chemistry between them at all although Edison deeply cared about her. She was just not there because she is not in love with him. Let's see what her future holds.

kendrat199 234 pts

Bren82  Brenda55 I've seen more chemistry between her and Captain Jake (mmmm!) in the 5 minutes of a phone call than all the moments Olivia spent with Edison. Thankfully he's gone for good and she doesn't have to question why she didn't change her locks.

People need not worry about Liv and Fitz. This break up is very temporary. Fitz is just hurt now. But I don't see him being upset with her forever. There is no way him and Mellie are going to ever be legit partners. Mellie is only with Fitz for selfish reasons. Fitz need to realize this and understand why Olivia did what she did. But they are not over for good. Their love is not easy and it will be tested. But at the end of the day, they will be together. The love that Fitz and Olivia have is too strong for it to be over for good.

dani-BBW 1787 pts

BeautyIAM I actually don't see them as having a strong love. I see it as two super damaged people who are co-dependent and without the help of a good therapist, will never love and communicate with each other in a healthy way. But, they are similar morally. They don't enjoy doing bad stuff. Whereas Mellie and Cyrus just don't care so long as their individual selfish reasons are attained. I just really, really want Olivia to run far, far away from him.

BeautyIAM 1286 pts

 dani-BBW  BeautyIAM

I would need to see more of Olivia and who she is to really see how damaged she is. Fitz for sure has problems. I think their lack of communication comes from the circumstances of their relationship. But from I see, its love.
