16 Fun With Your Foreign Boo’s Fam, Language Barrier Be Damned!

Fun With Your Foreign Boo’s Fam, Language Barrier Be Damned!

I date men who are not American. Stands to reason–I’ve lived in 5 different European countries over the last 12 years, with an autumn-long stint in Nepal last year. Only the parents of 1 out of my last 3 boyfriends, spoke English. I didn’t speak their languages either. (Seriously, who speaks Serbian??) This, however, has never been cause for concern for me. Why? As much as 94% of all communication is nonverbal. Therein lies the key to cross cultural communication, especially in the face of a language barrier.

Beauty and Infidelity: How Do Looks Matter or Do They?

A Man’s Right to Choose: The Ongoing Battle over Your Uterus

Does it seem like women’s reproductive rights have been at the forefront of virtually every senatorial, gubernatorial, or presidential election debate thus far? Well, maybe that’s because as the parties polarize, more extreme views of social issues become the norm. So, what does this mean for the epic Roe v. Wade? Only time will tell…

“Macho” Little Black Girls: The Anti-Femininity War on Black Women

Note: For the purpose of this article, I’m dealing with a specifically observed issue that has nothing to do with “butch” lesbianism in black women or non-black women. What I’m talking about is not an outgrowth of self-identified sexuality, sexual expression, or a conscious decision by the individual to move away from gender norms and form their own identity. This post is on something ENTIRELY different.

When Racial Unity Becomes Dangerous: Pillars of Salt Extreme Edition

As discussed in the previous blog post, Pillars of Salt – What a Waste of Time! We saw the example of Lot’s wife in the Bible. Turning to look back, she became a pillar of salt. She simply could not resist the deadly draw of her community and could not let go of the ties that bound her to it – not even to save her own life. Today, I want to address Pillars of Salt Extreme Edition (POS-EE). These are women who for their own lives will not leave dangerous neighborhoods and environments. This extreme and dire situation prompted an open appeal to them.

Photos of the Day: Maxi Me Goes to Homecoming!

Just have to brag, because Maxi Me is sooooo gorgeous. Thank the lawd for new acne-fighting technology, because she looks 10x better than I did at that age. She went stag, because, well, she’s 14. I’m sure we’ll be cleaning the guns in front of her perspective dates soon enough, though.

Emergency Post for the BB&W Crew: Reader Wants to Go Natural, Mother Threatens to Kick Her Out

This is by far the most bizarre post I’ve received so far, but with reports from war-torn Blackistan coming out daily, I can’t say I’m surprised. I also have to admit that I have absolutely NO IDEA how to help this poor girl, but the least that I can do is post it to see if any of you have anything to lend. The writer understands this story is fantastic, so she agreed to post a photo of herself along with the email to prove she’s real.

So…here it is.
