I think I might have been a lone voice in the wilderness in my blog space when I reported and expressed my outrage over the tragic and unnecessary death of Eric Garner, 43, who who was killed by the NYPD as the result of a chokehold. The medical examiners ruled it a homicide. While otherRead More…
Your childhood came and went, but unfortunately, even though you are now an adult, you still find yourself behaving–from time to time–as if you were still inexperienced in the ways of life. Or, to paraphrase the Bible, when you were a child you talked like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child…and now you are still talking, thinking and reasoning like that youthful version of yourself.
Yesterday I got the pleasure of speaking with Leah Sarago, fitness expert, dancer, and creative genius behind a DVD series that is literally feminizing my body.
I think in order to better understand why black men as a topic come up in BW-centric and BWE spaces, you must understand why they do not come up.
Women can sometimes be their own worse enemy when it comes to achieving career success. That’s a controversial message in light of the fact that gender and racial discrimination does still occur in the workforce, but that message is the basic premise of Facebook COO’s Sheryl Sandberg’s new book “Lean In: Women, Work, And The Will To Lead,” a sort-of feminist primer on how to get ahead in the world of work.
Y’all are working my pleasant attitude and so I do to you what I do to humans when I need to pretend that you aren’t here.
Boyfriend jeans has been an ongoing trend for about two years now. They are a throwback to fabulous 50s and they are just as great now as there were then. They are very slouchy, but versatile. Women of all ages can wear them. So, I have put together three ways that you can wear them. Dress them up or down. However you choose to wear them, you won’t go wrong.
Are white guys giving their best years to white women, then after the kids and divorce, moving towards something different and new?
Hold tight, ladies…this one looks pretty juicy…
In order to continued to shrink my waist and at least feign an hourglass figure, I had to come to terms that I had to give up something I really enjoyed and gave me comfort: DRINKING.
Who ARE these people?!
I am active on four online dating sites: POF.com, Match.com, AfroRomance.com, and SeniorsMeet.com. In this post, we are going to critique the main text part(s) of my online dating profiles with the aim of improving them and/or helping others create their own.
More questions than answers?
What does the word ‘reciprocity’ mean to those of you who call yourselves BWE?
This is not a trick question, but a chance for open dialogue and explication because, sometimes, I am not quite sure what some of you mean when you use the term reciprocity.
Oh LAWD! Tyler Perry is involved!
I went on a great first date last week. It was great except that I wore an outfit that showed too much cleavage. It didn’t seem like too much when I left the house, but by the time I got to our meeting place, my top had migrated downwards and my bosom was bulging to the delight of my date.
I got this letter a while back and I didn’t answer right away because it’s such an important question, and I just don’t take this stuff lightly.

Temporarily pinned as relevant to the recent Trayvon Martin verdict.
DISCLAIMER: This post may cause intermittent pearl clutching as it deals with death, racism, and Black males. Please save the drama if you don’t want to talk about Black men being murdered. There is a much larger point I am making here.
This is for the people who no matter what truths you show them, they refuse to see or acknowledge what is right before them and maintain the same thoughts no matter what. This is a sickness for which I use the code words: “I Say Hot Salt!”
White denim you say? Are you insane? No I am not. This ‘new’ staple for every girl’s closet, big or small is a must have this season. This isn’t your high-water white denim from the 80s, this is that fresh denim of 2013.
Grandparents often simply don’t have the energy to properly manage their teenage grandchildren. And, most importantly, times have changed and people are behaving much differently than how people were behaving when your average 60-, 70-, or 80-year-old was coming up. There have always been fast girls and boys who wanted to be players, but, in general, girls were much more fearful of getting a bad reputation, boys didn’t have as much unsupervised access to young women, and crimes against humanity such as disemboweling women were practically unheard of. We don’t live in the same age as our grandparents did, and the grandparents of today are oftentimes entirely unprepared to help their grandchildren navigate the rough waters that many a teenager today has to navigate in poor, high-crime neighborhoods.
