According to TMZ… “Django Unchained” actress Daniele Watts may be convincing in the movies, but not in real life because she’s just been charged with lewd conduct for allegedly having sex in her car outside CBS Studios. Watts went on a campaign against the LAPD … accusing cops of racism for cuffing her after people complained they were bangingRead More…
Today is my birthday, and there’s a lot of 7’s in it. Seventh month, seventeenth day, born the year 1973, at 7:03 in the morning. I suppose all those sevens have given me a little luck over my lifetime. As a newly-minted member of the Fabulous 40’s club, I’ve gotta say I feel pretty damn good. I’m old enough to (mostly) not do the stupid, impulsive stuff of my youth, and still young enough to capitalize on that wisdom. And while I’m four decades old, I feel like I’m 25–just with more brains in my head. I’m taking care of my mind and my body, and never cease learning. Some notable bits of knowledge…
Several times I have seen black women write that black women need to act to distance themselves from other black women. But why would I need to distance myself from the actions of another black woman if I am in no way, shape, or form involved in that other woman’s behavior? And if I don’t see myself as being in any way connected to that other woman’s actions, then the only other alternative reason why I would need to distance myself from that woman is to appease the sentiments of some outsider who is unable–or, most likely, unwilling–to distinguish me as an individual from that other woman.
How do you and your honey handle discussions of racially-charged subject in which you find yourselves on opposite ends?
It is the position of the editorial staff at Beyond Black & White that the killing of Trayvon Martin, an innocent, unarmed teenager, was tragic. We are shocked and saddened that the Martin family did not receive justice for the loss of their child. Many of our readers–myself included–have biracial sons–and the thought of any of our children being a target because of their dress and color of their skin frightens us to the core.
However, we often discuss issues within the black community that you will be hard pressed to find on any other news site. We are all observing in real time the outrage reverberating throughout black communities, and black leaders like Al Sharpon vow to “never rest” until George Zimmerman is punished. Perhaps during one of his multitude of press conferences some reporter might be brave enough to ask him if he will also “never rest” until the crisis of black-on-black crime is addressed.
I got a chance to visit the Urban Decay master command center last week so I can bring you the details on what’s hot when the weather cools in the fall. And this year, it’s all about the lipstick, and after years of shelving the stuff, Urban Decay has brought back lipstick with a vengence.
This note and subsequent video speaks to all the mouth-breathing miscreants who think black women are all sex-crazed thirsties looking for crumbs.
She’s marrying “The Squinter!!”

My BB&W opertatives came upon this video and shared it with me, and while it’s funny, there’s whole lot of truth to it. While the white chicks in this video call it “bitchy resting face,” in the hood we call it “mean mug.” Of course, when it comes to dating and trying to be approachable to men of all races, colors and creeds, the “mean” rest face can be a serious impediment, especially if a man has some presuppositions and stereotypes about black women coming from the womb being neck-twirling biotches.
I confess, as someone who doesn’t watch ABC Family (the programming is a bit “young” for me much of the time), the show “Twisted” was not on my radar. However, if you are looking for extremely swirl-friendly entertainment, this is probably THE most black woman, especially black teen, swirl-friendly show on TV.
Twiggy did it. Edie Sedgwick did it. Audrey Hepburn and Diana Ross did it, too. Mod style is back with a zest only modern fashionistas/fashionistos could invent. It was all over the runways, from Louis Vuitton to Coco Chanel.
A young college rainbeau asks me if he should approach a girl he’s interested in while she’s in her all-black social circle.
Can running like you’re being chased by a saber-toothed lion help you drop that fat faster than long distance running?
I have a thing for chocolate women who look like dolls. This is one of them. Lucky, lucky guy.
Saw this video yesterday and thought it was timely, since we’re talking so much these days about eating clean. Take a look at what this man has to say about how to deal with “food deserts.”
Original recipe egg drop soup makes 1 quart of soup. Egg drop soup literally “egg flower soup”) is a Chinese soup of wispy beaten eggs in boiled chicken broth. Condiments such as black pepper or white pepper, and finely chopped scallions and are also commonly added. The soup is finished by adding a thin stream of beaten eggs to the boiling broth in the final moments of cooking, creating thin, silken strands or flakes of cooked egg that float in the soup. Egg drop soup using different recipes is also known as a simple-to-prepare soup in different European countries and Japan.

Sometimes it can be hard to process what you can eat once you get the bit list of stuff you’re not supposed to eat. After the no wheat, no processed foods, and no sugar, what’s left? As a follow up to my previous post on my break-up with wheat, here’s a photo of my latest grocery stash. Everything I bought is in season, so the prices are reasonable and I can get maximum freshness packed with nutrients.
Have at it, haters!
