Do You Deal with Guilt About Leaving the ‘Black Collective?’

It’s been a long time since my black card was withdrawn, and honestly I mostly could care less. But because of the work I do, I have to have some level of connection, and even the small exposure I have had exposes me to some kind of emotional vulnerability.

It’s pretty clear that the BC doesn’t allow for a lot of diversity of thought, and those who veer from what the approved norm are rejected. I was reminded of how pervasive it is until I did this video…

The responses from both men and women confirmed my own feelings. Not the interests and other markers the BC discourages, and then it’s pretty clear why we struggle.

 

Some black folks like the ones above divest, but a tremendous amount of guilt persists thereafter. Has anyone here experienced this?
