President Barack Obama Is Prepping for the Debates, Is There Anything You Wish You Could Ask Him?

Business Insider is reporting that President Obama is about to start sweating it out in preparation for the upcoming Presidential debates:

President Barack Obama arrived in Nevada last night to begin three days of debate preparation at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort, a luxurious golf community just a few miles from the Las Vegas strip.

According to the White House pool report, the “resort is a strange mix of desert sand pits, green lawns, palm trees and new homes. We passed a replica of the Ponte Vecchio and some luxurious lakeside estates, also unfinished lots and a browning golf course. The president’s hotel has a Middle Eastern theme and a view of the lake from the lobby.”

Hmm, the room has a “Middle Eastern” theme? Cue the conspiracy theorists and attention-seeking pop stars who want one more chance to claim the President is a Muslim.

If you were serving as debate moderator, what would you ask President Obama or Mitt Romney?

Obama reminded me of Bush back in 2004. They both looked too exhausted to debate effectively while their opponents were well-rested and energized.

My grandmother used to say that debates were just beauty pageants for politicians, and the president didn't have his wig on straight.

Mitt didn't say anything of substance, and misstated the medicare funding situation repeatedly, but he LOOKED the part, and sounding like he believed what he was saying.  President Obama didn't call him on hardly anything, and looked like he was finishing his grocery list behind the lectern. Appearance is everything on the national stage, and I was completely unimpressed with Barack's appearance.

I do hope that Joe Biden has his verbal filter on the highest setting tonight. Vice Presidential debates are even more useless that presidential ones, but maybe Joe can reenergize a disappointed base.

I'm not sure what he practiced but tonight was awful. The Pres looked tired, rambled and was way too professorial with the stammering and gathering of his thoughts. Mittens controlled the entire debate, including totally disregarding the moderator.

Toni_M 18765 pts moderator

dani-BBW I don't see being absolutely rude to the moderator as being "in control". At least not in the good sense. I feel like if you are impressed by belligerent bullies and have no sense of how a debate actually works, you're impressed. But I'm just quietly waiting for someone to actually explain themselves.

It was a whole lot of empty talk as far as I'm concerned. Or business as usual if we're talking politics. :/

Brenda55 19302 pts moderator

Toni_M  dani-BBW Oh now don't tell me.  Was Mittens trying to look tough by beating on the so called dreaded liberal press again?

although I support Obama, I do think Mitt was more articulate tonight. The sad part about politics is, they can always say certain things and sometimes even mean to keep their word, but something odd seems to happen once they get in office and underneath the lobbyists, special interest groups, etc. nothing of substantial POSITIVE change seems to happen. So, in all honesty, Mitt was pretty decent tonight HOWEVER, one well played debate can't make up for statements like "Russia is our #1 Geopolitical Foe."

In this here 2012. I am afraid Mitt would get us nuked just for his ignorant public statements long before he could institute any good change (if he had any sound ideas to start with). If that is what he thinks about Russia, heaven forbid he open his mouth about the middle east. He also has an ad running with a line in his voice saying "Crack down on Cheaters like China." .....China is a continent Mitt and also the reason you are a millionaire.

Please, get some tact and stop running your mouth like a broke ass Appalachian  bigot. You need a little class to be president of the US. Money can't buy that, apparently. (and you can't outsource the job to China to have them produce your class for you, Mitt)

PumpkinSpice 67 pts

 Brenda55  Toni_M  dani-BBW  *continent = country******

Toni_M 18765 pts moderator

Brenda55  dani-BBW He didn't SAY anything. Nada. He was like, "I HAVE PLANS! LET ME COUNT THEM OUT!" And I waited and it was a lot of main points with no supporting ideas. :|

It was incredibly frustrating to watch.

I definitely don't think Obama called him out as much as he could or even should have, but anyone pegging Mitt "the clear winner" had mud in their ears. I still have no idea what that man's about. :S

People don't listen to debates.  They watch debates.

Toni_M 18765 pts moderator

Veron  Brenda55  dani-BBW Which makes them pointless. We're electing based on who LOOKS like a president vs who actually has anything remotely resembling common sense. What does that say about us as a country?

Good or bad, the debate went as Mitt wanted it to – he talked about what he wanted, when he wanted, for however long he wanted. That’s not a plus for him so much as it is a HUGE MINUS for Jim Lehrer who might as well have been an empty chair. The whole thing was like two dueling campaign commercials that went on for 90 minutes without any sort of structure maintained by the moderator. As far as performance, sorry but again I have to say Mittens performed better. He was concise and energetic, whereas the president looked tired, rambled, did not stick to a consistent point of view, stammered, had a hard time articulating his record, jumped around between examples he was pointing out and was hard to follow. I lean left socially but am not so partisan that I need to spin things in the Pres’ favor.

I really wish David Gregory would moderate a debate, I like his style on Meet the Press.

Toni_M 18765 pts moderator

@dani-BBW I'm an Independent, so I'm not exactly "partisan". But it's kind of frustrating when people act like blatant dishonesty and rudeness is what we look for in terms of winning a debate. And forget fact checking and not taking what a candidate says at face value.

Hopefully debates in the future will be better moderated.

Toni_M 18765 pts moderator

dani-BBW Actually this just signals to me that I should keep to my policy of absolutely avoiding politics and not listening to anything else until and after the election. It's a lot of hogwash anyway and frustrating for anyone with an IQ higher than a postage stamp.

Do you picture everyone naked when you are giving speeches?

Seriously, when are you going to address the environmental issues?

The First Lady will be on the Steve Harvey talk show today. I can't stand Steve but I wanna post this clip because of the reason Michelle gives as to why she married Obama. She says, right off the bat, "because of his character". I hope black women who admire Michelle Obama will see this interview and take that to heart. We here at BBW already know this, but for our African American First Lady to say it is a big deal.

Kels   Thanks for that snippet and will try and see show (and, yes, like you, I do not like Steve Harvey).    She's awesome, classy and (I've heard) a talented attorney, mad though she married MY husband (bwaaahhhaaaa).

If ObamaCare (or Social Security, or Unions, or MediCare) is so great, why don't you give me a CHOICE to participate or not?

I mean, MacDonald's doesn't MAKE me buy a Big Mac; and Apple doesn't MAKE me but a MAC -- they ASK me!

FREEDOM ---  it's a BEAUTIFUL thing!!!!!!!!

heyimPearlilikefries 2091 pts

DWB ObamaCare doesn't give you a choice? This is the second time I have heard of something like this. It makes me feel a bit weird. I think that that paperwork should be available to the public to see what they are getting in to.

DWB 7333 pts

TheZitaZitomihr That is what the Supreme Court case revolved around. ALL citizens are required to buy health insurance regardless if they want to or not, or pay a penalty (Obama said is was NOT a tax, but the supremes said it is, ironically saving ObamaCare.)

DWB 7333 pts

Oh, and they had to pass it to see what was in it!

DWB How much would be the tax? What about the people who can't afford it? What are people basically forced to buy it?

heyimPearlilikefries 2091 pts

DWB Th American people should be able to see BEFORE they vote on something like this.

"Need to remember:

The government pays for NOTHING.

The tax-payer pays for it all.

I have listened to so many that actually believe the government magically produces money for their "free" shit. Sickening."

I agree with this first comment. And tax-payers should also know what they are paying for,

I want to know how you gon' dump this "homeboy" (Willard "Mittens Robme")  from yo agenda and carry on the next four years homie, because (since) you are now "lame duck" will you now be able to talk to Black America since you'll be on the way out the do'?   One might as well use one's' power to help Black folk in America since you won't be in powa no' mo', ya heard? whatchugon'doWillis?

I need the English translation of this. ^

anyone?

DeepWater 2446 pts

PumpkinSpice   Not quite sure of what needs translating but, for myself, I'd like to see him address Black folk directly, maybe, in say his last year (or even days) in office as he'd be wrapping up his second term and would be "lame duck", on his way out, and maybe, address issues that afflict Black America (he did speak on fatherhood in past), incarceration, out of wedlock births, education (which he does address in administration policies), talent and wealth building, family planning, but in a more direct manner.   I say this in that he'd be criticized for this but he'd be on his way out and wouldn't be hurt for a re-election bid for being "divisive".

Veron 1394 pts

I want to know how he intends to address obstructionism within Congress if he does not regain the House. He'll be in his second term, so I would hope there would be a little bit less pandering, seeing as he no longer has to worry about reelection.

Jamila 7193 pts moderator

I believe there was a bill to strengthen unions that the Dems let fall to the wayside while they were working on getting the healthcare bill passed, so I guess I would ask him if he planned to submit a new bill to Congress to strengthen/increase union membership.
