Horses and Hats oh My! What to wear at the Kentucky Derby

The Grade I stakes races for three year-old thoroughbreds held annually in Louisville, KY every first Saturday of May is happening this weekend. Between 1875 and 1902, African-American jockeys won 15 out of 28 races.”1872, Col. Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr., grandson of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition, traveled to England, visiting the Epsom Derby, a famous race that had been running annually since 1780. From there, Clark went on to Paris,France, where in 1863, a group of racing enthusiasts had formed the French Jockey Club and had organized the Grand Prix de Paris, which at the time was the greatest race in France.[1]”

It is the  Wimbledon of America–of course Wimbledon is Tennis but man do they love their hats; a place filled with amazing horses, fashion, and HATS!! Yes, hats! And old school tradition and fun.

I have a love of horses. I am from Texas. When I was a child my step-dad bought me a Shetland Pony.

In fact, I was very good with horses, they actually love me. My dream is to own a blonde Palomino one day.

The other thing about the KD that I love is the fashion and hats.

They are a throw back to the 1920s and 30s when the Kentucky Derby was in its hay day. Here are some awesome inspiration for you to prepare you for your day at the derby. Toodles!
