Video: New Chester French Song, “Black Girls” WARNING: Super Salacious

Whoa boy!

First off, I love the message of the song, but seriously? Two models engaging in lesbian action?

Here’s how French’s reps describe it: “Black Girls,” Chester French’s honest and bold new single, meets a stunning video by acclaimed fashion photographer Francesco Carrozzini. The video stars the multi-talented Rie Rasmussen and Jodie Smith, who bring life to the band’s unabashed, hard-hitting celebration of feminine beauty and interracial love.”

Lyrics:

This ain’t no fetish, ain’t objectifying no one
I reject your deconstruction of my taste
But ignoramus always look in my direction
They’re so frustrated I don’t keep it in the race
Like they’ve never seen this before
Like it’s 1954
But the whole world’s turning brown and who cares

[Hook]
I’ve got a thing for black girls
La, la la la la, la la, la la la la la
Yeah, my mom says
I’ve got a thing for black girls
La, la la la la, la la, la la la la la
You know I got some love for black girls
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Well I have tried to taste the rainbow in my life
I’ve sampled many different flavors I enjoy
It’s not to say I wouldn’t settle down with Sally
Dilly dally with her heart like it’s my toy
I’ve been to England a few times
And it’s common over there
Plus the whole world’s turning brown and who cares

[Hook x2]
(I’m ? so what)
(And I need to know, where’s all the love for black girls)
(No the girl don’t need no tan)
(I keep on ballin’ hard for black girls)

Okay peeps, I know you’re DYING to weigh in, so have at it! (Special hugs and kisses to my buddy Rich Fung for sending this over!)

Great song but I don't really care for the video.

There's a really cute vid on YouTube called 'I love Chocolate girls' by Dax.

There was that line about the guy who got a Timex for Christmas, from his two lesbian friends - he thinks they mis-understood when he said, "I wanna watch!"

Some people on this blog seems to take issue with there being two women in a video that suppose to be celebrating interracial love(the apparent preference of the male singer?) The idea being it should have been a heterosexual couple. But now I'm just throwing something out there: There is always, and I mean always, the cheap thrill of two women kissing for the sake of male pleasure. But it is always two white women. Remember that short lived band Tattoo. Remember the britney/Madonna/Christina kiss. Neve Campbell & Denise richards. Natalie Portman and whatshername. I could go on and on. While I'm not down with "fake lesbianism" for the benefit of men.....if it's going be out there then perhaps its quite equalizing (in a weird way) to have a black girl in on the quasi-lesbian action. Some guys want to watch two women make out.....Chester French would prefer to watch if one of the women were black?! Who knows. Just pitching a different perspective.

Zindzi_Zenani 1399 pts

Blackberry I don't know about that.  As someone who's around a lot of lesbians, I can tell you, the stigma against WW/BW couples is EXTREMELY LOW, if there's any stigma at all.  Actually, my group of friends (because they're very Afrocentric) are basically the only Black lesbians I know who DON'T date WW.  In fact, the relationships tend to mirror straight BM/WW relationships in that the more masculine of the partners is usually the Black womban and the white womban is usually the more feminine (if they operate with labels).

And I just don't see anything positive about exploiting lesbian relationships for male fantasies.  THAT'S fetishizing and it doesn't help equality at all.

To me the song and the video that went along with is was all about the taboo. As if to say "If you think non-black men wanting black women is taboo Have we got something to really make your hair stand on end."

Sweetlady 73 pts

Maybe he is trying to imply more white guys (who only date Becky) should be open to dating BW. Especially, if you enjoy the idea of two sexy women making out, you should at least consider this as option.

I guess a win win situation for the white guys...LOL

Lyrics are hot...video RUINS a great opportunity to showcase WM/BW couple.  It could've been just as sexy.

Zindzi_Zenani Even though he's only half white, I wouldn't have mind seeing Jason Momoa.

I don’t think Jason likes black women. I saw a vid on YouTube where he made a joke about fat black women.

@yvonnelee @Tammy_Ghalden @Zindzi_Zenani Actually he's talking about a porno mag found un the hotel called "Big black butts". I don't see this as an example of him disliking black women. As he was telling the story of the prank they pulled with the mag, I laughed out loud. All his comments are aimed at the salacious nature of the magazine.

yvonnelee 195 pts

 LadyLittlefoot  yvonnelee  Tammy_Ghalden  Zindzi_Zenani

I’m aware he was referring to a porno mag. Does that makes it ok?

What’s funny about ‘big black butts’? It wasn’t solely about the salacious nature of the mag. He’s just perpetuating the dominant attitude of black women being big and undesirable. Would every have laughed if the joke was about ‘big white butts’?

LadyLittlefoot 664 pts

yvonnelee I think they would have given the story he was telling. As I watched the video and did not hear "a joke about fat black women" I thought maybe I missed it so I watched it again and nothing. Maybe I just don't get it or maybe I'm desensitized. I'd love to know what others think of this video as well.Tammy_Ghalden Zindzi_Zenani

LadyLittlefoot I watched the video and thought the same thing where was the joke? I don't think it was an obvious jab at black women but I could definately see her point as well. What's so funny about big black butts? Maybe that the stereotype is that black women have big butts?

yvonnelee 195 pts

 Asia  LadyLittlefoot

‘A joke about fat black women’ meaning a comic story about black women with big butts. White culture doesn’t have ‘thick’ so I thought black women with big butts were seen as fat women. Maybe I just don’t understand American humour.

Matrix12 I read some where yesterday that one of them have a degree in American American studies at Harvard...so now they don't like black girls because they didn't put a white guy in the video? I do think the video was meant for shock but I don't know enough of their personal life to say what they like and what they don't like.  They could have easily made a song about something else.  How many times have we ever heard anything like this about black women from other races of people? I mean I can name a few with just black artist.  Brown sugar, brown skin, and that black girl song by maxwell but that's only 3 song.

@Matrix12 Oh matrix you've set my spidey senses tingling. The whole black girl with short hair makes her the "boy". That's a lot of projection and unnecessary emphasis placed on hair. I don't know what the true intent of using two women was really about.....but It's always worrisome when people imput hetero-gender rules onto gay an lesbian relationships. The whole "this is the guy and this is girl" mentality is accurate to same-sex relationship. That same mentality also does a disservice to heterosexual relationships. haircut and personal style has no bearing on relationship roles.

Blackberry 1225 pts

.....freaking iPad auto correct smart type.... The whole "this is the guy and this is the girl" mentality ISN'T accurate to same-sex relationships. That is a significant typo...it may change some of the kudos I previously got for the post.

Maxine 1006 pts

Blackberry  Matrix12  I too noticed how short her hair was.  I don't think it had anything to do with lesbianism, but to emphasis the contrast between her and the white model.  She had a very dark complexion with naturally afro hair while the white model was fair with long, straight, blonde hair and light eyes.  And of course the video itself was filmed in black and white.  There are no clothes, accessories, or jewelry to get in the way of seeing that naked black skin on white.

Zindzi_Zenani 1399 pts

Matrix12 I wear short hair frequently (the last time I cut it was two years ago) and I'm certainly not masculine.  However, I totally get what you're saying here and I agree.

Its irritating among me and my Black Afrocentric lesbian friends that people always seem to want to pair Black masculinity (regardless of the sex) with white femininity.  We see so many Black studs with white femmes, it ain't funny.  Its as if they're trying to mirror Black men in saying that white womben are more feminine than Black womben.

Remember that show, "The L Word?"  Well, when they finally introduced a Black lesbian character, she was butch and she dated a white femme.  It was very realistic and irksome for some of us in the GLBTQ community.

Pearl  Matrix12 Everyone has their preferences and their rights to it.  But some things are perpetuated in the media and THAT'S what irks me.

Matrix12 I honestly thought it seemed like they tried to make the white women the masculine of the two. She seemed to go after the black woman. The white woman seemed to me to be more of the aggressor.

jamaica68 145 pts

The video takes away from the song, they missed the opportunity to show a bw/wm couple which leads me to believe they made the video for SHOCK value only.

Tashi_21 30 pts

jamaica68 Its chester french, they do everything for shock value. Showing BW/WM would be the easier way out. I like it.

VintageNarcissa 3152 pts

If he's got a thing for black girls, then why does the white girl take up like 60% of the video? Just sayin...

LorMarie 1361 pts

I didn't like the video at all for reasons similar to those expressed by OceanSpray. If they were really talking about lesbianism, that's one thing. But if they were covertly alluding to heterosexual wm/bw relationships/sex, this video fails big time, IMO. They should have had an actual white man in the video. As stated by others, this only makes bw/wm relations remain in the taboo category. Just think about it, it would be better two showcase homosexual IR than heterosexual IR...go figure.

LorMarie 1361 pts

Let's play spot the typo...

IAOSingleMoms 891 pts

LorMarie I agree...the video didn't do anything for me for the same reasons you listed...like the song though

Blackberry 1225 pts

Ummm wow! Is this thing on American television?! Because it breaks every American taboo......and just the phrase "I've got a thing for black girls". Some people would respond "of course you do massah!" I'm implying a derogatory fetish. Some might say "too much for color tv" ....lesbian kisses are not allowed on tv if they're not for heteromale satisfaction....otherwise it's "gay". some people might thing a pro IR song (whatever the orientation) is bad because they don't want to see it. Of it could explode into an Internet meme "got a like for (insert race) girls" .... Which could be quite positive. I'd be shocked to see this on the MTV music awards....but who knows there might be a "like black girls booth" at Pride festivals this summer.

Maxine 1006 pts

Blackberry You wouldn't see this on American television.  MTV and VH1 basically don't play videos anymore (maybe a one-hour segment at 4am on weeknights).  Artists have a lot more freedom on Youtube, knowing those videos will probably never be on TV.

MayaHope 52 pts

That was like........ porn.  ahahaha!!!

eugeniaberg 7245 pts moderator

I watched it earlier that's some hot girl on girl action. I kinda like the song too but I won't be buying it. But there's some deep thinking going on about the song & video, ppl aren't thinking this deep about the economic crisis. But maybe that's just me that's cool with titillation being ok for titillation's sake. Why do I keep hearing ppl call this porno, when was it was considered porno for two chicks to make out b/c if it is somebody hasn't really seen porno. I'm just saying...

Toni_M 19967 pts

eugeniamitchell I guess there people who are unfamiliar with the fact that lesbians exist and not necessarily for the sake of straight male fantasies? I'm sure there there are BW/WW couples who would approve of this video. I don't think it's necessary to shade them because people crave BW/WM visuals.

FriendsofJay 1958 pts

Toni_M I've had many male friends tell me they really liked seeing two girls making out, but somehow it never appealed to me.  The lesbianism doesn't bother me, but I guess I'm too vanilla to thinks its a male turn on.

I HATE PORNO KRAP===!! wHY did they have to have a song about wm wanting bw being soo distasteful--The 'powers that be' probably cant stand it cause those marriages may last the longest. I've heard because bw tend to hold back and test the wm more than ww do before they end up in bed.. what ive heard most men want women they have to 'earn' usually--and its well known that  many bw want only a 'brotha' usually and not give herself to wm because of 'slavery', the wm may treat her like a lady more

Tammy_Ghalden 875 pts

I won't be watching that again.

m I the only person who finds it interesting that they used a white woman to say this for reasons having nothing to do with lesbianism? The implications are rather interesting when you consider this if it were a song about "White Girls" using the same models in question.

Could you imagine using a black woman to declare a black guy's love for white women? I don't even know if there would be much backlash considering the commonality of BM/WW relationships. But it's interesting that they would put their words and feelings out from the mouth of a white woman. I remember a Chapelle show where he had his thoughts and feelings sang out by an attractive white woman. I think the idea was that certain truths were more readily "acceptable" if they came from the mouth of an attractive white woman.

And so, this white woman is being made the mouth piece for a white guy to declare his love of black women. She is shown verbally and physically expressing the feelings and desires of this white man.

This isn't lesbianism, really; she's a proxy.
