If you haven’t heard of Abiola Abrams, time to stop paying rent in the Quaker compound you live on and join living people in the know that’ve heard of stuff. Abiola writes books, blogs and columns and broadcasts TV, radio and web series about love, lifestyle and pop culture. This year the love and lifestyle expert has been an MTV Teen Dating Empowerment Coach on the docu-reality series “Made,” reported on celebrity news and relationships as a BBC Radio Entertainment Correspondent, been a featured columnist on love and sex for Yahoo Shine and celebs for Yahoo OMG!, talked about and written about love for Essence, blogged on her lifestyle site “Abiola’s Passionista Playbook,” and hosts/produces her own award-winning web TV series and advice vlogs.

Here’s a clip that she did with Dianne Farr, author of “Kissing Outside the Lines”

Abiola and I have been going back and forth on Twitter and, who knew how easy it is for a journalist to snag a big fish on Twitter? #justsayin. When we finally got a chance to chat, I found her just as goddess-like via telephone. We had a great conversation, covering everything from how black women are portrayed in the media, how black women lack the protections other minority groups do, expectations from other blacks to conform to a pre-approved “blackness” and how us morenas have the power to change impressions one individual at a time.

BB&W Exclusive with Abiola Abrams by Christelyn

You know what puts the yummy milking chocolate frosting on top? Abiola will be a REGULAR BB&W contributor, blessing us all whit that beautiful face and girlie advice through her Passionista Playbook video advice webisodes. You’re welcome.

BTW, BB&W dudes, Abiola is single and an equal-opportunity dater of the rainbeau. Check her out on her blog, Abiolatv.com and Twitter, because I think she may own some real estate there.

Why do black women always have to say 'I love chocolate men'. Black men never have to say that. Makes it seem like other men are second choices.

Brenda55 4316 pts

Nkosazana So true. I'm gonna take that as just her preference but sure if you like non-black men there is no need for that preamble. To me it is just as obnoxious as saying that I don't like_____________(fill in the blank) when it comes to your dating preference.

Decades of brainwashing & indoctrination.

Nkosazana It is my preference, but you're absolutely right! I don't want to make anyone I'm with feel secondary or less than. Thanks for giving me something to think about, goddess. xo

Wow! I love the open and honest subjects you ladies covered. The subject of the lack of expressions of enjoyment in the bc is so on target. Families can be the worst offenders and "killjoys" to the free spirit. I have felt a lot of heat from bc when they see the exuberant joy by bw.I also have had to call folks out on it.

I can relate to not fitting in to the "box" of the bg/bw stereotype.

I agree, the moment I saw her video, I could feel her "freedom" that is rare to see. I hope to see more women like her. I know we are out there! The one's smiling because it feels good to do. This was a great interview!

Ditto....she is beautiful!

Love the word "killjoys." I never fit into the "box" either and I was often ridiculed for "smiling too much." I smile because most of the time I feel good/happy. I felt her freedom too and I know that I could never go back to being around the 'killjoys" because I'm not going to defend my happiness/joy/peace/exuberance.

I am so grateful for this interview! I wish I could send it back in time in a an email to my teenage self. Would've saved myself the tears. Abiola is a beautiful person and a beautiful spirit and it inspires me to see how she's maintained her exuberance despite the bullying.

OOOO Chrrr-iiii-ssss. Hubby says to tell you his fellow Quakers don't live in compounds. Your getting them mixed up with the Amish. And before you ask no they don't dress like that guy on the cereal box.

Brenda55What do you get when you cross a Quaker with a Jehovah's Witness? Someone who knocks on your door but when you answer it he doesnt' say anything.

Jay from PhillyBrenda55 Har-day. No seriously that is funny. Told that one to hubby. While laughing he said that was terrible. Accurate but terrible.
