Video: Three OUTRAGEOUS Myths About “Swirling”

This video is a light-hearted response to some cold-blooded assumptions that are being made about “Swirling” by people–some who are self-proclaimed “journalists” who have never cracked the spine on the book.

You have to ask yourself, why would anyone want to discourage another from reading a book that they themselves have not read? What might they be afraid of?

I loved the part where you were chasing the man down the street.....and the white knight music. If you're still tossing out ideas for swirling the movie .....I'm pretty sure there is a funny montage possibility for a confused main character as she imagines such reactions. INT. bookstore. A beautiful black women paces in the self help section of Barnes & Noble contemplating whether to buy "Swirling" the book as her friend suggestions. BBW: will I love desperate. Cut to: BBW chasing white men down the street. BBW: am I selling out IBMs and white knighting white guys. Cut to: trumpets blaring as a white man on a white house tramples over scores of black men, scoops up the BBW and rides off into the sunset. You're a way better writer that me......but I'm Just saying it could be a funny part of your film.

I was talking to an Ivy league educated girl who just graduated and she looks like model and told me that she did not date at all at.   She said that the black guys had the attitude that they were the prize and the white guys just did not approach.  She is a sweet girl.  White guys just dont approach when out and about.  They now smile and say hi but unless you are there co-worker or something like that or maybe in a bar, they dont seem to approach.  That is what I like about your book giving you locations to find a good swirl.  I would just like to know how they think about black women as a whole.

By the way,  I love my man but if it ends, I will seek out non-black men only but be open to healthy black men who approach me.    I fully support black women dating outside our race.  It has become essential, very necessary.  My boyfriend (black) is very handsome, gorgeous face, nice body, beautiful smile and you should see the way that the white waitresses act when we are out together at a restaurant.   He does not pay any attention to anyone but me when we are out and it actually seems like they are perplexed that he is not with a white girl.  The sense of superiority that they display is beyond me.  He is really kind of striking and they act excited to be around him.  It is really interesting.  They dont want you with their men but dont want us with our own men.

I encourage the sisters that I meet to date white men.  It is a mixed reaction but the reason they say that they dont want to date white men is because they think that white men dont like them.  With the negative images of black women they are probably scared to approach.

MayaM 178 pts

Also, people only say these things in your video cause they are scared to death of the inevitable...black women dating white men in large numbers...

Christelyn 8896 pts moderator

MayaM Wow Maya--good on you! Sounds like you've got quite the catch. It's good that you're encouraging your friends to consider all their dating options, and make sure they know that "rainbeau" doesn't necessarily mean a white guy--the one just might be Asian, Hispanic, European or African. Be open to a GOOD man. Character above color, always.

eugeniaberg 7245 pts moderator

@MayaM White men actually aren't scared to approach, it's not like they don't want bw. They do, when I was younger I'd have bw tell the same thing that white guys don't talk to bw. I didn't get it, b/c they talked to me, I was never dateless when I dated. The biggest thing I would get from white men is they were shocked that a bw liked white men or any non-bm. They were convinced bw only dated and wanted bm. That's how loud that contingent of NBAB women is. Personally, I'd like for the sisters with other brothers as @DeeDeeRussell calls it to be just as vocal about their preferences. I was always vocal about mine, maybe that was why I was never dateless. I just one of the posters on here, Glamdoll, move to this town. I been taking her around showing her the city but she's been here a week and yes non-bm are tripping over themselves. It's not impossible, many times it's not even hard to find Intersted non-bm. Sometimes women just make it hard.

eugeniaberg   MayaM  DeeDeeRussell My experiences while single were pretty similar.  I never had a problem with interested WM approaching me and I never lacked for dates (I only dated WM).  Even now as an old, married woman, I still get approached by WM!  And since I'm very happily married, I'm not doing anything to invite the attention.  It's just always been my experience that if a man is interested, he will approach.

eugeniaberg 7245 pts moderator

@The Working Home Keeper @MayaM there's this ongoing myth, that wm are scared of bw or not really interested. The only thing I've found is the same thing I found w/ most ppl, ppl don't want to be rejected but if you're open to IRR and show yourself open, they're open to you. Yes still at this age & being married I get non-bm showing interest although I'm married non-bm ate still checking me out. I think if bw would stop being so self-conscious and stop expecting the worst they'd be shocked at how many non-bm show them interest. But if you go out expecting bad things to happen, guess what they happen. We don't attract what we want, we attract who we are.

Definitely!  I was out there swirling before BB&W and BWE blogs existed.  It never entered my mind that WM wouldn't find me attractive as a BW.  Or that BW were supposed to be the least attractive or at the "bottom of the barrel".  I guess it's true that ignorance is bliss!  I just got out there, mingled, showed interest in those interested in me and enjoyed dating.  That's why no one can tell me that WM aren't interested in dating and marrying BW because my real-life experience proves otherwise!  And I wasn't even the only BW in my circle of friends at college that dated and married WM.

The same thing happened to me; Black men paid me no mind, but white men about broke a leg to get to my door.  I never understood it.  But you have to go with what you get.  I was an equal opportunity dater both times I was single.  Tried 'em all.  But Black men acted like they were doing me a favor to take me out when they had nothing better to do.  Asian and white men were the ones blowing up my phone and knocking on my door.  You have to choose from the available pool of the interested.

No, I definitely think that white men like black women even more than we think.  I just think that they know how to even approach.  Black women are pretty hard.  Black women are beautiful.  Other men think it. I know they do.

eugeniaberg 7245 pts moderator

@MayaM some bw are hard, I just never had all these issues. Well, I just never thought wm didn't want me, I guess it was b/c they kept approaching. I don't think it's the guys, I think many bw think they are giving one signal when they're actually giving another. I just did a vlog http://wp.me/p1LNjf-gn b/c I really think bw believe they are giving one vibe & they're not. I think b/c I looked open and approachable wm came my way. If some bw wanna be hard and stay hard, they are going to be forever alone.

eugeniaberg 7245 pts moderator

I'm going to say this every time a wm doesn't talk to a bw it doesn't always have to do w/ race, sometimes he's just not Interested, you're not his type. I don't care how good looking you are, if you're unapproachable no one is going to approach you. Many bw have issues of inferiority that make them think a wm wouldn't talk to them or we're hard to approach, if a woman is hard to approve its b/c she has made it that way. White men talk to all the time, even now that I'm married but many ppl talk to me b/c I'm approachable, open & friendly. It's that simple, so bw please don't think every time a non-bm isn't tripping to get to you it's b/c you are a bw. I know of many bw who wm are tripping to get to b/c they're approachable women, they may not particularly beautiful or anything. They may just may average nice looking women, they're just more approachable. Even if he doesn't approach you or rejects b/c you are a bw, don't take that as an insult, he just did you a favor. A bw don't need that.

eugeniaberg   MayaM"I think b/c I looked open and approachable wm came my way."

Honestly, it really is just as easy as this!  If you're approachable, people (including men) will be drawn to you.  Like shooting fish in a barrel!

eugeniaberg 7245 pts moderator

@The Working Home Keeper @MayaM It's so much than we want to believe. Do we as bw just want to make stuff difficult for difficulty's sake? Heterosexual men like heterosexual women. Period. They may not all like the same type of women but you can't tell me if you're looking good, putting off a good vibe, feeling good, & approachable there's not one non-bm checking for you just b/c you're black. Yea I'm calling shenanigans on that.

MayaM I too have always encouraged my friends to date outside.  None of them ever have though.  I believe it is a confidence thing.  Many of them just don't feel other men will find them desirable.  I think that because of media shoving negative messages down our throats 24/7 a lot have simply developed a complex about their features not being good enough.  Its time to kick that brainwashing nonsense to the side.  I've always dated and considered other men and never had a problem with dating other races of men.  If I liked the other person then it was never a problem.

YES!! One of my BM friends always notes this - he's just a pal but nonBlack women try to mate poach him all the time! HE comments on it and laughs about it and as an experiment he'll ignore them and boy! They get ALL pissy about it. Those crows don't even want BW to have a CRUMB from a slice of the pie! Mainly blondes, by the way.

Christelyn  lol. The brainwashing claim is the one I hear a lot. BTW, I actually was asked by some folks in my Meetup group to be part of a date auction for charity. One of the organizers said, you seem to be a hit with the group, we'd love to have you as a bachelorette. Interesting. Keep in mind that of the 375+ members, around 35 of us are black women.

I especially LOVED the scene where the BW chases the WM down the street yelling "Hey, hey, hey."  But the very fact that many non-black men are buying this book would seem to vindicate my repetitive words that many WM like BW.  Sometimes people have to hear an idea many times before it strikes home.  When BW are told from the time they're little girls that no man finds them attractive, they need to hear an opposing view-------and often.  Maybe now I'll never have to say it again.  Mission accomplished.
