Just in case you missed me in the lion’s den…

Actually, I had a pretty good time. Jacque Reid is an excellent interviewer and kept the children in their play pens. I have to give props to the show, because a few hours after my Amazon best seller ranking SOARED!

Amazon stats for SWIRLING at 3:30 PM today. Keep in mind though, thes number fluctuate like my moods do once a month.

Good interview.  Congrats, on the movie news!  THAT'S BIG.

I really enjoyed the dialogue/banter between you and Jaque. It was great and I hope that the large Black female audience that that program has will heed your words.

I really could have done without all the laughter and nonsense from those guys in the studio. I see nothing funny about the obstacles that have been placed in front of countless generations of Black women when it comes to finding happiness in their romantic lives.

Congrats on the success of your book and the movie deal Christelyn. You deserve it and I wish you the best.

This is great, Chris!  Maybe we can get you on Oprah.  The idea of SWIRLING becoming a major motion picture is the best thing I've heard in a long time.  Just think of the effect on BW and WM in the audience.   Think of the positive effect on the country!  WOW!

My 14-year old car has a stock Vehicle Audio System with a broken fuse inserted in the Power Distribution Centre [fusebox]. I fried the fuse with a 9V battery myself. I don't listen to music, etc and also don't talk on a cellphone while driving or eat/drink in the car. I just drive.

I've named the car Helga, to go with the joke about every day I get inside a big White German.

Similar to Helga: http://images.dealerrevs.com/gallery/photo.php?id=11900751

Neither snazzy nor jazzy. The only after-market thing on it is a "Don't Laugh, It's Paid For" license plate frame. Otherwise, a stock E39.

Law Wanxi You are funny.   I cannot laugh as my Jeep is 8 years old this fall.   I have not named her yet.  Helga sounds reliable....  Well, my only chance to drive luxury these days is when I drive my parents car when I have to drive it for maintenance as they live in another state.   Here in Michigan, I am glad their car has heated seats......

Law Wanxi I've got a 10-year old Suzuki Burgman (maxi-scooter) - bought used, with low mileage - the only sounds in my helmet are wind noise and my voice, talking or singing.

The biggest problem, of course, is when the scooter begins to reply, through the helmet, in a soprano voice ...

The voices ...

What a great interview! It seemed like it went really well, and that they were open to the idea of swirling.

 R. Kamaria OMG,  That burns me when I hear  "Hey, What G'Yo Naame iz"..  I think I here it that way.  I have a neighbor who's family member asked me that and I kept walking LOL...  You are right, Jay Anthony is funny....  Chris had some dealt entertainment on the Tom Joyner show.....

Christelyn,

I also was expecting some horrific, ignorant, overtalking from the host's.  It went well and you were very much the lady who could enlighten and explain to those who are not as knowledgeable on the matters of swirling.

Elegance 2096 pts

That didn't go badly (I was expecting the usual negative commentary) but they sounded open. The laughing was annoying but I guess I'm not used to talk radio like that. It was actually very positive so that's great!

So the movie deal that was the big news? Awesome! I do tend to squeal and really enjoy whenever I see Black women and Black men on the screen together (e.g., Scandal, Shame, Star Trek, Saved by the Bell, any Zoe Saldana or Thandie Newton movie lol)! The book and the publicity is great validation for your work Christelyn no matter what the haters might say. Some causes need a good spokesperson or PR person and that's whoever does the job best, and for swirling that person is you. Interracial dating is not a new idea but it still isn't accepted enough by Black people especially women and that's why people are interested in this.

Empowering Black women off-line is not a new thing and no one can rightfully claim that they came up with the idea for Black women empowerment just because they started a blog. I think it was Dorothy Height who said "when we worry about who gets credit then nothing gets done" or something like that. You're better at getting information about swirling out, and as long as the message is heard, people are just being jealous because they were not able to get the same message out in such an effective manner. Congratulations on your hard work!

Thanks for posting. I don't listen to TJMS anymore either so was happy to see you posted it. @lemoncrush lol at the ashy commnet. I just had a converasation with my good friend who's Asian about that. She's dating a black man and was confused by the entire concept. I can kind of see the appeal of dating someone who shares so much of the same background. So I understand what Jacquie meant by the comment. However, I don't think that benefit offsets the very real possibility of never finding a mate if you don't branch out.

LemonCrush 123 pts

That was a great interview, Chris!  I don't listen to the TJMS show anymore, so I'm so glad you posted the interview here.  Question -- Were you able to help Jacquie Reid?  Just wondering because she was on an episode of the Anderson Cooper show (daytime show) and she seemed to be so against interracial dating.  Her reasoning didn't make much sense to me but I remember her saying she wanted to be with someone who knew what it meant to be "ashy."  Seriously, Jacquie?!!  I thought that was one of the DUMBEST reasons I'd ever heard of why a person wouldn't want to date interracially.  She just didn't appear to be the brightest bulb in the bunch after that comment.

But, I'm so excited to hear that there's a possible movie deal that will accompany the book!  AWESOME!  And I'm glad to hear that you'll be executive producer as well.  Hopefully then the movie won't be a complete waste of time like that "Something New" crap.  "Something New" was a great idea but, unfortunately, executed poorly with so many loopholes and missing pieces of information.

Skayi 514 pts

LemonCrush I know, I know! But Something New is a guilty pleasure of mine. Yummy Simon Baker. :)

Elegance 2096 pts

LemonCrush Ass I liked Something New lol! I'm game for any swirling movie so I'll be watching :)

"she wanted to be with someone who knew what it meant to be "ashy."  In the past I used to think things like that were important but then really it only takes a sentence to explain that so why put off dating because of a bunch of trivial things like that?

Explanation 1: When Black people have dry skin it looks gray like it;s covered in ashes instead of white like when your skin is dry. How hard was that!

Explanation 2: Our hair doesn't get  oily and doesn't stick together the way yours does so we only have to wash it once a week. In between washes our hair actually gets drier not more oily and washing it too much can dry it out even more.

Explanation 3: Some Black women like to change their hairstyles a lot so they just use weaves and wigs instead of permanently changing their hair.

These are three conversations that some Black women are soooo worried about that they won't date interracially because of them! These things are so trivial and easily explained. A guy might try to convince you to do things differently but then again he might not so you were worried over nothing. I'm thinking that especially about the hair things women are worried about being embarrassed or judged negatively by men when they tell them. But if you know that you are right or your choices are nothing to be ashamed of then there will not be a problem. I think adult men are mature enough to be able to deal with this stuff or you need to find someone who can.

I think that some Black women are more worried about complex and controversial situations like when something racial happens in the news (e.g., O.J. Simpson Trial, Trayvon Martin) or something where they are afraid that their man will not be able to understand their point of view or may say something they consider racist. But I'm going to think about it like any other issue where you and your man might not agree! You can just chalk things up to your different experiences not to him being "genetically evil and racist" or something. You are going to have disagreements over many serious things, not just race. But as long as you love each other, have many things in common such as common values and goals, then those few disagreements shouldn't matter. He shouldn't have to take a Black history course or be an expert on Black culture and issues in order to date you!

Good points.  The the IR adverce.

All human skin develops an ash.  All it is it the dead skin cells that are being sloughed off.

If you're dark you see it easier than if you are light.  If you have dry skin you see it easier and

have more of it than if your skin is oily.

Funny story.  I needed to write down a number, did not have a pen so I used my finger nail to lightly scratch the number on my thigh like I used to do when I was a kid.  Freaked my husband out the first time he saw me do that. I wish I had a camera at the time the look on his face was priceless.

Ash is normal and good hygiene sends it down the drain.

As far as the hair, well hubby is a veteran of what I call the "marriage wars".  He has lived through all kinds of stuff his former wives have done to look good. The have colored it, permed it and slept in all kids of stuff on their heads. When he is in the mood head wraps and curlers does not slow his roll and I think it is that way for most men.

Brenda55 "All human skin develops an ash.  All it is it the dead skin cells that are being sloughed off. "

Very true. All people get ashy (aka dry skin) I see white people and light skinned people of all races and cultures sitting ashy and happy as can be on the subway. Especially now that it's getting warm and everyone is wearing shorts. You can tell when white people have dry skin too. You just have to look a little harder  because the ashy skin is the same color as their non-ashy skin. And just like with ashy skin on dark skinned people it is not pretty.
